Default Ride height: Im too low, where to measure?

Here is a side view of my car, as you can see, the rear is way too low:

I have the weltmeister springs from Paragon, the front is lowered by 1.25" or so. Here is where i measured the height to get is all sitting level:

Is that the right place? i have 63cm/630mm all round on all fenders, front and back. But something is wrong, the rear is still sitting too low.

Where do you measure to get proper numbers?

Thanks

Why do you care where you measure? The fact is that the rear either needs to come up or the front down to look right. Who cares what the measurements are.

Front - measure to the bottom of the inside rear control arm bolt. 130mm (5.12") ideal

Rear - measure to the torsion bar tube (the outer part of the torsion bar) 230mm (9.0") ideal

Looks like it's time to reindex the rear torsion bars...

The front is already dropped to an acceptable 1.25", anything more could cause serious problems with the control arms/ball joints. Besides, it already scrapes almost every speed hump in sight, the rear will come up

Cooooool Thank you I needed to know this myself.

Raise your rear end a bit and you will be fine. I doubt you will be able to get it enough with just the eccentric bolt. How did the rear end wind up at it's current height?

When I had my suspension upgraded recently the specialist commented that my rear end was too low also. I've had a good look through my maintenance history to see if I can find any clues and found an invoice for a rear TB re-index because one side had dropped. It seems like they lowered the higher side to match the lower side. The worrying thing was that the specialist that carried out the work has a good reputation too. Just goes to show that no matter which specialist you use it is always worth canvassing as many opinions as possible to double check what they tell you.

Anyway apparently 944's like to be in a slight nose-down attitude so that's how it is now with the rear not being that much lower than it was but the front has been lowered to suit. It is a night and day improvement in feel. I am now having to re-learn how to drive the car.

IPS that is how i got the car 4-5 years back, PO told me that the front springs were stock but cut to make them lower, so hen i got the upgraded Koni sport kit, i got the springs with them (3 years back or so).

Could be that the rear shocks are failing? i saw some fail and they lowered (one side) pretty badly.

I don't think that new shocks will raise a car that much but I have only ever gone to coil overs and no T bars so what do I know. Try the eccentric bolt and see how much you can get out of it. My fear is that the t bars have been re indexed lower on your car.

The weight of the car is on the torsion bars not the shocks. If the shocks totally leaked the gas out you would get little to no drop in the rear.

Like IPSC said try the eccentrics.

Also, you can get a good idea of how good the shocks are by pushing down on the bumper. Should come back up a bit over the “at rest height”, settle, and that’s about it.

Tay-Tay,
That old trick for testing the suspension 9front or rear) buy the "bounces" a car makes, in my experience, is not a good way to check. Example, on our 328is, the front (and rear) strust/shocks did not leak, and they bounced twice when pushing on the car/bumper. But the shocks/struts were worn out causing vibrations. After replace all 4 suspention components, teh car drove like new, smooth and grippy again.

Anyways, i will try that eccentric bolt and see just how much i can raise the rear, i don't think that the PO before him (who actually played with the suspension) spent enough money to get the t-bar re indexed (it showed in the car, however the PO was a serious gentleman who replaced a lot of parts on the car before i got it).

Will keep you guys updated.
