Default S2 suspension upgrades

Hi,

I'm cross-posting this question here because there is so much more traffic on this forum and the S2 is *somewhat* similar to the 951 suspension-wise anyway. (If this is not OK or violates any Rennlist rules, please just delete it, John.)

My questions:

I need to clear up some confusions I have on the best way to proceed with upgrading
the suspension on my 1989 944S2. The car has very low miles (30K at present) and is
in overall great shape. The car isn't used on the track at all, but I would like to replace needed parts with ones that would provide a bit of an upgrade as far as the handling goes. One of the previous owners replaced the rear shocks at some point with what look (and feel) like very cheap after market models so I figure the logical place to start would to replace those with Koni adjustables?? They seem reasonably priced at about $140/each from Paragon Products. Or would it be better to put another, non-adjustable shock there since I'm most likely not going to be fine tuning this car for autox or anything?

Changing out the front shocks seems to be a lot more complex since, apparently, the choices are to either replace the entire strut/shock assembly, ~$370 each for Boge units from Pelican Parts. Paragon's stock replacement recommendation is for Bilsteins. To make things more confusing...Pelican also offers a NON-ADJUSTABLE Koni replacement strut assemble for about $300 each also.

Paragon offers adjustable Koni *inserts* for $170/ea. but they require a modification to the strut tubes, which I think they do on a core exchange basis and I am not sure how much they charge for this--I think it's $125/strut.

There are more options, but I won't bother going into them at this point as I would like to get the basics in first. The idea of keeping my options open enough to further upgrade to the "Adjustable Ride Height Kit" from Paragon has some appeal though.

If there are any threads on the web forums or elsewhere on the net that discuss suspension upgrade options, especially for the S2, they would be appreciated also.

TIA for any pointers or recommendations from S2 owners or other who have done this kind of thing.

I believe the adjustible Koni setup (from Paragon) is similar to what the Turbo S has (which is quite good). If you want a step above that, the options are endless -- but, remember, Porsche used the Bilstein setups in the Escort Cup and Firehawk race cars...

Go with Koni adjustables, you wont regret it. The modification is not that hard, if your not inclined im sure someone would do it for for relatively cheap!
