Default Wideband information

After blowing a head gasket last week @ VIR, its time to get an A/F mixture gauge. Many have suggested not to waste my time with a standard A/F gauge, but to go to a wideband instead.
My questions are;
1. Does adding a wideband replace the current O2 sensor, or do I need to add a bung for the wideband sensor?
2. If at first I go with a simple A/F gauge, then change over, is there anything I need to do with the wiring from the O2 sensor to the gauge, or just cut it and seal it?
3. Finally, what is a good, moderate cost wideband. This is on a basicly stock (chips, 3 bar FPR, boost enhancer) motor (new head gasket!!), that I have plans to add a MAF system when my finances recover from the head gasket job.

Thanks,

Dave

1. no, add a bung AFTER the turbo, most put in the first section after the down pipe
2. most KITs have, sensor - control box - display
3. Zeitronix, Tech Edge, UEGO

1. No, you have to add a bung (after the turbo).
2. No, your DME needs the signal from the O2 sensor. You can however splice into the wiring loom.
3. Have a look at www.zeitronix.com

P.S. Skip the part where you go for a simple A/F gauge --> Waste of time and money!

I have not hooked up yet, But I ordered the Innovate LC-1 and greddy E-01 boost controller which is supposed to data log wideband along w/ rpm and boost w/ optional wiring harness(20$). Also it is supposed to be able to be set to display.

My big question is since it reads a 0-5 volt input will it be able to disply usable info?

1. I think you don't need to add one if you buy a one that has narrow band signal.
3. I bought my plx for $245. come with guage. it also has narrow band signal output.

The DME doesn't need an O2 input. It will run fine without, just will not run in closed-loop.

I would not use the simulated NB output to feed the DME. If you want the DME to have an O2 input, then just use the stock O2.

I prefer the Innovative LC-1. But have had good experience the the AEM Gauge-Type WBO2 as well.

Slightly OT here but has anyone experienced problems with their widebands due to the 02 sensor failing? There have been a few issues with the ZT2's which may or may not be due to that, but it seems like the most likely culprit. Mine froze on 14.7 a/r after 3 days of use.

Yes, I had my sensor die without warning after about a year of use. Just replaced it - no problems.

you want to make sure you install the sensor straight into the pipe or at a slight down angle. If slightly up, moisture could settle in there on start up.
I've had Tech Edge on the street car for five years, UEGO on the track car for 3.5 years.

love my zeitronix- nb o2 is good but not if your tuning since it is too slow. If your just looking for a basic signal if it goes constant rich or lean, it would be fine. WB o2 is prob. twice as fast if not more, and w/ a zeitronix system you can log it on your laptop and see exactly when and where you have variations in the fuel ration, at what rpm, etc...

Yes I got the ZT2 with the whole box and dice. Problem occurred only 3 days into it and car has been off the road since so I've had no chance to do any testing. Will need it in 3-4 weeks again....I hope...Seems like a few people had issues with their o2 sensor though on these. Is 14.7 a/r the default setting by any chance as that's what is the common reading with those that have been afflicted. That's what mine kept going back to after the warm up period?
