Default Removing Front Bumper

How much of a PITA is it to get the front bumper skin off?(thinking of purchasing an AIR splitter) Is it just the 3 bolts on each side behind the wheel liners, or do you have to take off the header panel, etc. also to get at more bolts? car is an '86 951. And i know there is alot about the AIR installation already if you search, but upon searching i couldn't get a solid answer on how many bolts there really are.

thanks
Mike

Header panel can stay on. The batwing needs to be unbolted from the body (3 bolts), and the 3 8mm bolts on each side of the car need to come off. After that, slide the front bumper forward, and disconnect the connections for the turn signals and fog lights.

Might be a little bit more complex with the headlight washer system, but still an easy task (20 minutes or so).

Edit: I like to use a bit of painters tape to wrap round the edge of the header panel so that when you slide the bumper on and off, you don't scratch it.

There are also two bolts in the front air inlet for the radiator. Just look in through that lower slot on the bumper cover and you'll see one on each side. They are there on my '88 anyway, can't be certain on the '86.

yeh, those two bolts near the radiator are what I'm unsure about, it seems like some people mention them and some people don't. Upon looking at my car, i couldn't find them. does anyone have any pictures of where they are? could someone clarify whether they are present on an '86 or not?

thanks

the batwing has to come off before you can see them

so if you have a splitter on the front of your car, and you take off the bumper to install it, then how do you get the bumper back on with the splitter installed? wouldn't the splitter block your access to those bolts?

You get at them from the front, through the lower opening in the bumper cover. Splitter or batwing do not have to be off. Here's a pic of the one on the driver's side, and no I didn't wash the car after last week's track event
