Default help with lifter diagnosis

removed the cam tower to replace main and rear gaskets.

question, how should the lifters feel?
two of them i can squeeze the button in, i would not call them soft it takes some pressure with my thumb and fore finger but the other six i cannot press the button in at all. oddly enough the two that i can press where in the an open valve position if that matters.
thanks in advance.

I think you are ok to re-use all of your lifters. If the lifter are easy to depress with your fingers, then they need to be replaced. But this does not seem to be your situation.

Store all of your lifters in clean motor oil with the valve-facing side up. Keep them in order if possible.

turboted, thanks for the quick reply.
i did a seatch and was reading some past posts, i think you are right i should be fine. the car has been sitting without oil in it for a few weeks now so my guess is since the two lifters which are soft were in the open position the oil flowed out and released the presure on those two. i didn't expect that i would not be able to press in the other six however, i was actually more concerned with that.
also, they are in oil face up and in order. thanks again.
