OK - Here are the details...
We'll meet up at Barnes & Noble @ Northpoint on Saturday, June 9th at 8:00 am. Here's the address:
Barnes & Noble Parking lot
7660 Northpoint Parkway, Ste 200
Alpharetta, GA 30022
We'll plan to depart at 8:30.
Since I haven't had much feedback on routes, etc, we'll go with the following planned route: (I'm typing the route out in full just so that those who may show up late will have the opportunity to still drive up and catch up with the rest of group.)
GA400 North to end of 400. We'll regroup at the Chevron at the end of 400 to regroup and allow for a quick stop.
Take Hwy 19 into Dahlonega. Turn right at the first light (at bottom of hill, just past McDonalds) to bypass Dahlonega.
Follow Hwy 19 to the dead-end at Hwy 129 (Hwy 19 continues to the left). Turn left at this intersection.
This is the FUN (read: Dangerous if not careful) part of the drive. There are a couple hairpins, and lots of curves. At the very top of the mountain is a rest-area/parking area. Let's stop/regroup there, assuming that there is enough parking.
We'll continue North on Hwy 19/129 past Vogel state park. Hwy 180 will have a leg (that we'll come back to later) on the left. Go past that, until you reach Hwy 180 on the right. Turn right.
Follow Hwy 180 to Spur 180. Turn left. Follow to the Brasstown Bald parking lot.
We'll regroup at Brasstown. When the group is ready to leave, we'll head back down the 180 Spur, turn right onto Hwy 180. Turn left back onto Hwy 19/129.
Follow to Hwy 180 on the right (just before Vogel state park) - turn right.
This road also has a lot of curves. Watch out for bicycle riders as the curves are very blind.
180 will dead-end at GA 60 in Suches. There is a gas station there on the corner - we'll briefly regroup here.
Turn left to head South on GA 60. This will drop back onto Hwy 19.
Back in Dahlonega those who need to head back can, and the rest of us can go enjoy lunch on the town square.
