How to destroy the heart & soul of your 951
#17
Lets not get confused here.
The guy is a loser because he couldn't hack the 951 turbo engine problems, not for doing a conversion.
Putting a Hayabusa into a Fiat 800 is cool because the original engine is a piece of **** - THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE.
Putting an RB into a US 240sx is cool because the US Nissan engine is from a truck (and also a piece of ****).......see the pattern?

Im not saying an engine conversion is a bad idea but if your going through the trouble make it worthwhile. Wheres the sense in putting a 2.0na in a 951? Its a downgrade in my eyes. Now if it was and ls1 or an rb26, i would give it credit.

Gotta love that low end power....heh...
I can see if a person wants to get rid of their 951 engine if they blow it up and its all unserviceable. Chances are though, its cheaper to just get another 951 engine and put it in there and not mess around with different clutches, bell housings, and all that crap you'd need to convert/customize.
The gearing in these cars isnt quite set for a v8 as you'd be cruisin down the highway going between 3000-4000rpms...
Im not a purist by any means, i'll put wahtever is cheap/free and works into my corolla, my 944... it'd simply cost too much to put anything other than a 951 enigne in unless someone provides free parts and labor. you can modify a 951 and get whatever HP you want out of it and yes, it would be reliable ONLY if its built right.
Give me a viper engine, i'd put that in my corolla, if i had one for the 944, i'd sell the viper engine and buy myself a Turbo S 951, sell my 86 951, and then upgrade a bunch of stuff... :-P
People are people, you can take a corvette and put a 928 engine in it for all i care... or 1.6L corolla engine.... pointless....

Second comes the French then Jap cars then the German stuff. Have you not noticed that despite UK being the centre of the F1 world we do not have any tuners like Lindsey/Vitesse/JMR/Under Pressure/Broadfoot for 951
Have you ever heard of MAX power magazine its all Fords/Vauxhall Opel/Peugeot/Renault???
At the top end of 911 etc we have the likes of Auto Farm etc but nothing for the 951 with the exception of probably Jon Mitchell who built Paul's (Diver944) 3.2 litre engine. Although he does not sell conversion packages.
We do have Andrew Sweetenham (Promax) who sells Lindsey parts but thats it!
Very different to the US!
Oli, it looks like a Calibra Turbo engine, I agree. I didn't know they were built in Finland

They started with Saab back in the late '60's. during the '80's & 90's about 80% of all Saabs sold in the USA were Finnish made. All 900 series convertibles were made in Finland.
Then they made those horrible Tabots, Horizon etc. Then there came a black moment, they fabricated a "better" version of Russian front wheel drive Lada, mainly for german & UK market... Luckily that lasted about a year. Then Opel came to the picture. Calibras were manufactured here several years, because Russleheim factory had capacity problems. Finally it was Porsches turn. Nowadays about 90% of Boxter & Cayman series are fabricated here.

We actually sell very few Lindsey parts now (mainly the wastegates and turbochargers), please take a look at the website.
We have already delivered a 442bhp (402bhp WM) - Level 4 951. Level 3 solutions have been tested at 365 - 380bhp (WM was 365). So we have created a few highly tuned 951 motors. We also built an engine for a 400bhp race care for the Porsche Open. We have developed special custom 3" exhausts and use other mapping solutions that you don't see mentioned here much. So, we do more than just sell parts. We have immaculate workshop space with over 3,000 sq. feet of high quality facilities and a further 5,000 sq. feet outside. We also have some of the worlds most advanced Hunter DSP600 alignment gear. See pic. We build race & track cars and supply and fit some of the best suspension systems available from Bilstein and KW.
Regards,
Andrew
