Default Difference between years - DME/KLR?

Might have a problem with one of my boxes.
'88S.

Other than chips, can I use any 87+ DME or KLR?

You can also use older boxes if you convert 24 pin to 28. It's easy task to do

I have an 89 T DME and a 87 T DME, and they are both fine in my 89 T as long as the right chips are installed.

86-87 are 24 pin while 88-89 are 28 pin chips.

You can use turbo S DME on a 86 turbo if you have in that DME box a '88 non S chip. All boxes can be used on all models if you use right chip. Early boxes can easily be modified to have a 28 pin chip

I've taken an 89 T box, with an 89 T chip, and put it in a 87 T and it drove fine. I'd suspect the fuel maps might be a tad off (due to turbo size?) but it worked fine for us.

Good Question. I know the 86 DME will work in an 89 as the last Dyno run I did I swapped the DME out to see what the chips in it were doing. Ran fine if a bit rich (autothority and all) I do not see why an 89 DME would not work in an 86?

Thanks guy - although even better - it was some random wiring issue to the MAF.
