I think rebuilding calipers is very easy, but I have done a lot. All you need is compressed air (with an attachment that blows air), and the rebuild kits (inner seal, dust seal, caliper pot, silicone).

On a side note is there anywhere that just has a total kit you can buy? The only way I have seen that you can buy the stuff is a listing of all the different types of seals etc. and you pick which ones you need.

When I did mine...I called 944 online! The guy was real helpful, And got me what I needed. Be prepared to spend around 200.00 a caliper!!

Brian- $200 each? I knew it wasn't cheap but I didn't think it was that expensive.

The seals aren't that bad, but if you have to get out the spring plates that hold the pads in...good luck!!!

The kits should come complete with everything you need. At least the ones I sell do.

Yes... If I remember correctly they are about 50.00 per piston and seal kit! 4 piston's per caliper.

If anyone has Perry951's caliper rebuild and powder coating on their hard drive, please post! That was a cool write up and pics.

i got the brakes off today and took a good look at them, i dont think i need no seal or anything plus i looked through the paperwork for the car and the brakes were completely rebuild back in 1996 (good thing my dad keeps records of this kinda stuff), but the paint is chipping, and id kinda like to keep them nice and paint them...any suggestions on what to use????

I used them two years ago -- it was $200 per caliper ($400 for both), and had to pay for shipping there (but they paid for shipping back). It also included powder-coating to make them nice and new. Very happy with their job.

Ok new question...since the seals are in good shape and everything, and all the brakes really need is a good paint job (and i know a local guy who could do a polymer coating ont hem) do you think i could take the brakes apart, sandblast, have them polymer coated and than use the old parts again???????

I have a set of standard turbo caliper seals from StopTech available. I bought fronts and rears for my S and ended up just doing the fronts as the rears were fine. Rebuilding is easy. I found that the best way is to pressurize the caliper and carefully manage how the pistons come out with plates and blocks. Once they are almost all the way out you can get them the rest of the way by hand.
