Default Shift Boot vs shift boot and know

OK, guys and girls...
Now I am confused. I have been looking for a replacement shift boot. Now, I see at Pelican the boot and the boot and ****. I hear that getting the boot on over the **** can be a real pain. Are the boot/***** a basic drop in replacement? Do they make the job that much easier to justify the price diff? Also, what other options are out there? I heard from someone hear in Austin that the Boxer **** is a straight drop in. What are you all using to replace the OEM ****/

I second Rennbay. Intall on the **** is not all that difficult. There is a write up somewhere about it. Basically find a socket that fits in the hole where the gear pattern indicator is, gather the material under it and drive the socket into the hole, wait awhile, pull out socket snap in pattern indicator and your done.
