Wrong website completely! http://www.autopia.org
Detailing the engine bay must be done in steps. If your engine bay is caked with dirt, start wrapping up all electrical components and things that can not get wet. Then breakout the degreaser and water hose.
End result is impressive though:

This is what I did:
Remove engine
Rebuild engine while out. Powdercoat, paint, etc
Prep engine bay.
Paint engine bay
Install engine
Install all new hoses, vacuum lines, etc.
Clean as can be

I am pulling my engine this week and then detailing the engine bay while hte motor is being worked on. I have a feeling that this will turn into a larger job then I initially thought!
Good luck on your bay!

Has anyone just sprayed the engine bay down with a pressure washer (on a low setting)? Seeing as I already have the head off as well as the turbo and whatnot, and all the electrical and vacuum lines pulled it seems like it would be pretty easy to just spray it off. I'm just wondering how well power washing would work for the oil and **** on the lower parts of the engine block.

i've used a degreaser from costco with good results. i let the car sit a couple hours after coming home so there would be a some residual heat but not hot to touch.
i cover the distributor wth a rag, spray on the degreaser and when finished, used a pistol grip spray nozzle on the hose, using a fine/wide spray for the rinse.
i go for a drive, getting up to operating temps to dry up any moisture.
i'm not a fan of pressure washers. the surface might look clean but most of the time the dirt/grease is pushed out of sight and forced someplace else.
packed on grease and oil needs to be loosened up. if there's enuff, you'll need a putty knife or get it boiled.

I've already used two aerosol cans of brake cleaner on just the oil pump and power steering pump alone, and they're still pretty filthy...
I'll have to find some degreaser stuff.
