Doh! My bad Mike, you're absolutely correct.

Geoff: Good news my friend, if you have it out then you're more than half way there. That means no stripped bolts, you have the right tools, etc.

Friendly advise, don't forget that the gasket on cylinder #1 goes on opposite of the other three. Please don't ask me how I know...

Greg, per chance, do you have the exhaust gasket that goes between the turbo and the downpipe?

edit: crossover and turbine inlet.

I told Jason I wanted all the turbo related exhaust gaskets, and I just got the 2 for the downpipe... Oh well, I'll just get one tomorrow (in theory)

but turbo removal was fun... fairly easy, and I bled a lot. and we were f*cking with the dead turbo, which was also fun... put the shop vac into "blow" mode, stuff that and a rag into the turbine inlet, turn it on... watch her spool, then throw stuff into the compressor wheel. the coolest was a lit cigarette...

I just went and rooted around in the spare parts drawer and I'm afraid I don't see one. Hopefully one of the local stealers will have one for you, although my experience is that they hardly even know Porsche ever built cars with the engine in front...

How hard was the turbo/intake manifold removal? I have a little bit of mechanical experience but nothing quite like removing the intake/turbo. Something a home mechanic can do?

Having done this 3 times now I think I'm qualified to weigh in. There is nothing particularly tricky about pulling/replacing the turbo, it's just time consuming because of what's necessary to remove to get to it. Fuel rail, intake, steering rack (not removed but loosened), brake booster heat shield and airbox if stock. Nothing all that exotic as far as tools go, just lots of tight spaces.

So yes, doable if you have some mechanical aptitude, can get the car properly up in the air, have lots of patience and are **** retentive about using baggies to sort fasteners into!

Ive been reading some writeups and saw that some people remove the fuel rail from the intake itself, while others leave it attached. Is one way better than the other for a specific job? I would be redoing all the vacuum lines and venturi delete plus mbc install.

The injectors go through ports in the intake manifold so I don't really think you can avoid removing the fuel rail...

You can remove the stock intake with the fuel rail still attached to it though if you disconnect the fuel lines, which helps prevent spills (leaving it on the manifold)

in a moment... I've got great pics of the stock turbo throwing embers around from when we threw a lit cig into it while spooled...
