Default How many of us are there?

I was just wondering, I know that there are very few 951's out there, I have only seen one '89 turbo S around my part of town, but does anyone know how many 951 owners there are in our great nation? Any idea? The more I drive on the weekends, the more I see that there are not many 951's out there, I see a couple of banged up 944's out there, a few in nice shape, but any clue to how many 951's there might be? I know we are few, but I am curious to know how many of us 80's dinosaurs are there...

I don't have my book in front of me, but there were ~6500 made in 86, and I think some 4000 in 87. I think there may have been about 15000 total, but don't quote me until I get home. I would imagine that about 50-60% of them are left alive, with about 5-10% of them driven freqeuntly.

First of all, I dont think you can call it a dinosaur if it stomps on ferrari spring chickens. But from what I gather here, many have been turned into track cars. Think of how many have been in accidents and or parted out. On second thought lets not think about that.
Do you mean on a weekend drive in day time? They might be too fast to spot but I for one intentionally wait for the wee hours of morning so that I can enjoy my ride and what it has to offer.
You bring up a really good point LFA, maybe those of us living in close proximity should represent in a caravan sometime. What do you guys think? Good topic.

I was referring only to U.S. deliveries. See Ballistic's post.

I know that there aren't any 951's here in Tucson to my knowledge. There are a few n/a's but no 951's. The funny thing is that my car was born and bred here in Tucson. Bought from Chapman Porsche down the street

By dinosaur I meant old school, how many of those almost 14K might there be left? What I mean by weekend drive, I mean that my car is a weekend car and only gets used on the weekends for short strolls, I only use it during the week if I have some special occasion or event. So the question still remains, how many of those 14,273 are still being driven today, we need to factor in totaled wrecks into the equation...

As I mentioned above, I'd say maybe 50-60% are still operable.

An approximate figure would be better than a guess based on presumption

Yeah, I always wondered if it was possible to search DMV records for numbers titled or registered in a given state.

So 50-60% would be around 7,000- 8,500 of our cars out there, very rare considering that there are over 136,568,083 registered automobiles on the nation's roads today, we are truly unique! We are not even a fraction of the 1% of that figure...

Just checked the roster for the upcoming North Country Region DE at New Hampshire International and in the instructor group (Red) there were 7 out of 32 driving 951s and another 3 in the body style (924/944/968). That probably gives some indication of where they all are ending up.

From past history, I would guess there will be at least 15 951s at this event in May.
