Default 968 skirt oilers on a 2.5, anyone have info???

I'm building a motor for a fellow Rennlister and hope to run the 968 skirt oilers on this motor. I know I've heard of them being done before on the 2.5. Anyone know the specs or details to making the 2.5 block accept them or has anyone here done them. Please let me know, I need to send the block out soon. Thanks, Andy

its not a big deal - if you have the squirters and the block and a good mill it is fairly easy.

From what I understand the skirt oilers on the 968 were necessary for a couple of reasons. The water jacket does not go as low on the 968 block so the lower end of the cylinder does not get as much water cooling. Also there is a brace or girldle that stiffens the bottoms of the cylinders AND prevents oil slosh from reaching the bottom ends of the cylinders. Even with the oil squirters many 968 blocks get too hot in that area and warp.

That being said, heat is the enemy of every engine and anything that can be done to keep it down is, to quote Martha Stewart, "A very good thing!"

Oh and Woo Hoo Post number 951!!!

As Chris said, not very difficult to install. You can get the oil squirters from the dealer there are a few to chose from. 930, 964 or 993 part #s.
MY 89 2.7L, 944S2 share the same block with the 968. The 968 is the only block to have the oil squirters.

I wasn't sure how critical the angle would be or if it's pretty much obvious. I don't have the squirters yet, I'l probably be ordering them soon. Thanks guys, I think that pretty much answers it.

If you're considering a windage tray then it would be a good idea to do the squirters based on what we have seen.

Good idea Patrick! I don't think many people that bought those windage trays have found that out yet.

I had Garrity install squirters in my first block. It appeared that he drilled and tapped into the oil gally on the front of each main (back side of the cylinder) and screwed them in.

I looked around in PET and didn't see the squirter for a 968 or a 993. Anyone know any #s?

John, or anyone who could help, I'm not seeing the oilers or anything resembling them in PET. Most of the time when I get something from the dealer, either I have to look it up for them or I just bring a list of part #s that I looked up. I'm counting them out as a usable option. Anyone that can help, please chime in, I need to get this motor going. Thanks, Andy

Here is the info you need, double check before ordering (just in case of a typing error).

Both the 964 & 930 are the same external size L: 21.55mm D:6.25 (close enough)
The orfice on the 930 is smaller than the 964.

Part #:
930.101.015.00
964.101.020.00

There is also a 993 part # 993.101.018.51 (33mm length)

You might need to mix & match the 964 and 993 parts based on the thickness of the block.

Good luck.
