OT - Hey Joel, I'm working at Sun in Broomfield these days, I drive almost by your house every day on 95th. I've been having a La Familia chili relleno hankering here lately, wanna go?

Ok. I've determined due to cost reasons, there is a K26/8 going in... it's a new one, so rebuilding it won't take out the car for a while..... then, I'll either have something that IS rebuildable, or a nice 16 lb paperwieght...

Geoff - Famous last words but we can pull the old and swap in the new in a day. There are a couple of potentially grumpy bolts/nuts in there but as long as one of us bleeds in the process I'm sure the Porsche turbo gods will be appeased and all will go well.

it's already made me bleed when I was inspecting it... stabbed myself in the forearm while loosening a clamp... I have a nice screwdriver mark 2" above my wrist.... it's square and everything!

I also think that the night before, I'll be taking off the intake and getting all of the fluids drained, just so when it comes to the turbo, we'll be good.

I've got a collection of a few tools that make this easier. A ratcheting box end for the little bolt that holds the brake booster heat shield on, a big long hex socket to get to the bolts that hold the turbo on and I think there were one or two others. If you still have the undertrays on they'll need to come off too to allow access to the bottom of the turbo.
Hopefully Rogue will chime in here, he's done this more recently than I have...but probably not 3 times in the space of 6 weeks like I did

Geoff: Sure, I will come by if I am in town. I'm trying to get away for a short vacation before May but have not been able to pull it off.
Greg: Sure, I can always use a trip to La Familia. I have also been known to go to Gordon Biersch for happy hour, I like their apps. Some Sun guys like Village Tavern, I have only been there once and thought it was OK. Canyon Cafe is good too.
-Joel.

Wobble extensions help a lot. As well as 'ratchet-wrenches', as Greg suggested earlier. I've heard of people not having to remove the rack, but I would simply say to just drop it, it WILL make it easier to get to the turbo mounting bolts. I replaced mine without pulling the downpipe, but you will need a decent sized pry-bar to flex the crossover/downpipe to do this, at least in my experience.
I would love to help! But I doubt you want to wait until mid-May before I'm back in the state.

As Joel said, get the PB going.
The ~$31 Craftsman 44835 ratchet is the be-all-end-all of 951 turbo replacement, hands down! Three turbo swaps under my belt, and I know what I'm talking about, with this ratchet leave the brake booster heat shield in place, it's a non-issue.
Don't be in such a hurry to get the car on the road that you skip the WIIT stuff, AOS and upper BS seals at a minimum!
