Default OPRV questions again...and anyone also buy the wrong one want to trade?

Ok been searching for way too long... I have an early 87 (manufacture date shows 10/86) which seems to be dead in the center of all of the revision changes between the 86 and 87s...so it has the block that fits the "early one piece" OPRV. But of coarse I had already ordered a new OPRV for a "late" 87 block before I pulled mine and relized I screwed up. So question de jour: Of the (4) OPRVs that went into the 951 are there only two "updated" replacements? And are these the correct updated replacement part numbers: 944.107.035.11 for early blocks; 944.107.035.02 for late blocks?

TIA!

944 107 035 01 -87 944T models from July 86 (no corrison treated) from engine # 45 H 00086.
944 107 035 01 - same part but with anti corrision treatment. From # 45 H 01256

So if your engine # fall between 00086 and 01256, you are suppost to replace the part with the 944 107 035 02.

The retro fit part for older (83-86) three piece is one piece design # 944 107 035 11

So there was no early one piece, there is a one piece replacement for the three piece. There is also a note in the Part reference catalog saying if your 87T engine number is in the range above, you should replace the part.

So the Four OPRV I know of are:
1) The 83-86 three piece
2)The one piece replacement for the three piece, different then the 87+ one piece.
3)The early 87 non corrosion OPRV
4)The 87+ anti corrosion OPRV

Right, and of those, only 2 and 4 above are currently available from Porsche. 1 and 3 are obsolete and were superseded with 2 and 4, respectively.

So 2 (944 107 035 11) and 4 (944 107 035 02) are the updated parts for 86 and 87 blocks respectively. Thx Beab!

Ok, next: I have a new 944.107.035.02 (paragon price is $270) but need a new 944.107.035.11 (paragon price is $240)...anyone want to trade up?

Does that mean that my 86 MY 951 with engine #45G01265 takes the 87 style OPRV? If so, I have to trade a new early 3-piece conversion OPRV for a later style.

Looking at you date of manufacture, you should have had the one piece.
Check your engine number to be sure.

I think you need the one piece retrofit, the 944 107 035 11.

Thanks, that makes sense now, the G (year code?) supercedes any numerals in the engine number. I sure didn't see any sleeve in there though. Guess I need to look again.

Where exactly is the S/N on the block? Also does anyone have a link to the rosetta stone for block numbers.

What I'm guessing is my block P/N (cast) reads:
9441011103R
046-1

But I guess I'm not seeing the S/N (which I'm thinking would be stamped...)

Thanks a million gang!

Look on the block near the sensor mounting bracket.

Just a tip for anyone trying to see these: take a sharpie and ink over all of the numbers then take a brass brush to it. Then bend yourself into a pretzel to see what it says...

My block numbers:
M44/51
45G 05439

So does that sound like my block was replaced at some point? Going to try and find the engine number rosetta stone....could of swarn it was on 944online.com somewhere...

Here's the VIN decoder which has 86 as G; 87 as H and so on: link

Does your oil pan have the low level sensor in it? This assume they swapped the block with the oil pan attached. It get real confussing when the PO starts changing parts between model years. They should have placed a tag in the engine compartment to alart the next owner of the change.

I've owned the car for 5+ years and had always blamed the mix of 86/87 parts on the fact that it was an "early 87"....right around when the revision(s) changed. Starting to wonder now...

Shooting from the hip I would say no on the low oil sensor...only thing(s) I remember bolted to the pan are the big oil return line and the drain plug. I'll verify tonight though.
