Default 951 dominates Road Atlanta

This past weekend the IMA Motorsport 951 completely and utterly destroyed any and all competition at Road Atlanta. The closest it ever got was on the grid. The separation during the sprint race was from 6 - 12 seconds by my stopwatch.

951's can still compete in GT-3. The best part was we ran GT-3S and used Hoosiers that were scrubs. 3 days at Summit for a DE, 4 days racing at Barber and the weekend at Road Atlanta without a tire change.

On another note, I got the chance to finally meet John from Vitesse in person. He's quite a big bigger in person that I expected. Truely a very friendly and nice guy. It was a pleasure to talk with him.

Here is a pic of the field that was 1.2 seconds behind at best in qualifiying.

Chris, It was a pleasure meeting you and Ivan. You had two first class cars (951 & 911). The 951 was a joy to watch on the track, smooth and fast.

That damned car went by me so fast at Summit it moved my outside mirror..

Doubt Chris was driving. He can't handle that much power without hitting a tire wall. ;-)

So, how did the Blue Meenie do?

After reading the Excellence feature on IMA's twin-turbo 911, I'm quite sure they build fantastic cars.

Any info on the #13 GT3S car in the pic? Blue 944 with a 968 front end (is that your car?).

Thanks Jerome but I am still faster than you so suck it.

Ivan was driving the 951. We had Price Cobb in a 2.1 twin turbo 911 in 4R. Ronnie (993 GT3RS TT) was hit during the sprint qualifiyer and HE got the 13. He got hit on the L/R fender by a car he was passing and got a 13. Fuggin sucks.

Ivan sitting on the grid.

Price Cobb getting into the "Green Bean".

Parade lap before sprint start.

I will have to get more pics. I don't have that many since I have to work the whole time. I have a friend who took a bunch of photos.

So you qualified on pole, but how did you finish?

Sorry to hear about Ronnie.

Um. Yeah. Good question. I call five laps to go and Ivan has a 7 second lead on Price in the Green Bean and a 12 second lead on the third place car. I have Price and Ivan on the radio. Price tells Ivan he cannot catch him. Four laps to go and I hear Ivan ask "was that black flag for me?". We don't know but next station displays it again. Ivan tells Price "well it's all yours" and pits in to black flag. I call three laps.

They have Ivan at black flag for no more than 15 seconds or so. Apperently he passed a lapped car under a standing yellow in five. He didn't see the flag. Now he's pissed. They let him go and the car stalls. He restarts the car and give it throttle and......dumps the clutch! He pulls a killer holeshot out of the black flag station and has to be doing 60 at pit out. By the time he makes it to three.......you guessed it, black flag again.

Price rolls on for the easy win.

lol that sucks! i saw DNF on the pca results page, thought maybe there was a car issue.

should have seen me at VIR on Saturday. I took the "ivan line" through the grass at the end of the back straight on the last lap of our race. I got one of the two cars back that passed me before the checker though. Raced fine on Sunday without problems.

Wow! very nice job at Road Atlanta. After seeing that car in person i had a feeling that IMA would have the fastest 951 and 911 in club racing.... now if only we can do something about those black flags

Sorry no videos. What's the point, there's nothing to look at expect empty track!!

PCA Watkins Glen weekend is the same weekend as the 12 Hours at the Point. The car is running the 12 hour so we will miss the Glen. Sorry.
