Default Cure for the rattling hatch syndrome

Somebody may have a better idea but I solved my noisy rattling hatch problem. Over the years PO's have greased the hatch pins causing the rubber insulator inside the latch to rot and deteriorate causing the hatch pins to rattle when I go over bumps in the road. I took the latches out and cleaned them of all the gunk in there and removed the worn insulators. After reassembly, I found some cone washers in the plumbing section of Lowes. By bending these inward and holding them with a hemostat, they can be inserted into the inside of the latch. The pin sits up against the cone washer and rattle is gone. Quick fix for $1.50.

FWIW, replacing the hatch shocks will also go a long way towards reducing hatch rattle. Thanks for the tip.
