Has anyone done a wide body?
Which do you prefer GT or AIR?
What's the procedure to install the rear quarters? Is there a guide anywhere online? Don't tell me I can't do it. I'm very smart and skillful and a quick learner. I also have access to a body man but I want to know how to do it myself if I can.
What offset wheels do you use after installation? Can I use my 10" turbo twists with spacers to fill out the widebody until I get wider wheels? How wide of wheels can I go?
Which wide body is the silver car (GT or AIR)?

That silver car is a former rennlister by the name of Dmoffit. The wheels were 17x 13 kenisis and the rear quarters were Racer's Edge carbon fiber I believe.
To do it you'll have to do aluminum or steel extentions to the new fenders and it is VERY costly to have them installed correctly. Do a search on GT racing etc. 90% of the racers use them, but be aware they're "race" quality and look good from 30 feet at 30 mph.
I'm using GT racing's body panels for my own build (GTR) and it will take tons of work to make them streetable, but yes its possible.
Edit: to answer your question I would say to use the GT racing parts without a doubt over any other vendor based strictly on my dealings with Hank. He's a stand up guy and deals with TONS of 944 widebody panels.

Pic of the rear wheels that would fit under a 2" flared GT Racing rear quarter pane (the wheels from that silver car in fact)l:
Check out Lindsey Racing Project Car for how its done etc. Its super expensive to do but will give you much needed traction if your power numbers are going up and beyond 400 at the wheels.

Oh yeah, and with spacers, the PCA won't let you run with them in any event (according to the Rule book they have out), and I wouldn't recommend using a huge one as it puts tons of vertical stress on the hub.

944j,
If you don't want to spend a fortune fitting panels, use http://allporscheracing.com/WBody.html
Hank at GT racing used some their parts for molds. The fit and finish is great compared to GT. I have seen many rear quarters from them. I also have and had many GT parts and thought they are ok. Just because they are " race" parts doesn't mean they can't be nice to start with.
ps- I have nothing to do with IFC, I am just a happy customer.

Also, FWIW, I have heard similar good thing about the quality of IFC - that it is head and shoulders about GT Racing.

yes, some pics would be great... so to confirm that silver car has gt racing wide body quarter panels? what rear bumper does it have? what is all the work require to make them look good (street good)?
the main reason I'm doing this is that I've spent a long time messing with a big dent in my quarter panel and it's not likely to come out exact right without a new quarter panel, so I might as well put on a wide body and it doesnt seem like more work than I've been doing with trying to work the metal just right with hammer and dolly and stud welder... we'll see how good my quarter comes out after the body man gets done.
what's the typical cost to have a complete metal quarter panel put on a 944 at a body shop? (from a donor)
how do you handle the wheel wells on a widebody?
does the value of the car go up or down after a widebody conversion that's done right?

If you're modding your car, you probably shouldnt be thinking about value.
The silver car, Skip Wolfe's current car, has GT Racing 1/4 panels as he already stated. It also has a GT Racing rear bumped, as does the black car behind it.
I find posts with photos I shot years before amusing (in a good way)

so if the body work doesnt come out right then what are my options for replacing a quarter panel?

To Guns point - the latest version of the PCA Club Racing rulebook adds this rule: "The use of overly wide spacers which place higher than normal vertical loads on spindles and bearings is a safety hazard and will, therefore, not be allowed."
That isn't a ban on spacers, just "overly wide" spacers, which is pretty wide open for interpretation. Remember lots of Porsches came from the factory with wheel spacers. I'm not saying giant spacers is a good idea, but I've been running 15mm in the rear for several years without issue.
