Default K26/8 to K27/8?

My K26/8 just arrived in the mail, and I am looking into rebuilding services. I'd like to do it locally, but I am not ruling out sending it elsewhere if need be.

My question is :

Can(should) I rebuild it into a K27/8?

What are the advantages/disadvantages?

What else should I look into for the rebuild?

TIA

Ryan

It can be done. You must modify your water tubing to turbo. 27 compressor housing is bigger and original tube does not fit without modification. You would also need chip made for this turbo. Otherwise it is a bolt on job.

27/8's tend to be a bit too laggy and a 27/6 is my preference over the 27/8 on a street driven 951. There are three or four of them around here so it's an easy comparison.

Well my choice is between the 27/8 or 26/8. I think I'm leaning towards the 26/8 as of now, from what I've read in other threads..

Jeremy -- Do you know of any places local that can do a quality rebuild with good price/turnaround?

I have an 27/8, and I would not think it is more laggy as an 26/8.
It is good for around 30-40 additional HP though.

I would be interested in knowing who does the K27 conversions and the prices also. I read somewhere they use a GT28 wheel or something and machine the compressor cover? It sounds like an interesting turbo.

The K27 conversion is simply a K27 cold side mated to your stock K26 CHRA and Turbine.

Did you notice any major differences between the two? If so, what were they?

I've had both. I ran the 26/8 for about 10K miles and the 27/8 for about 25K. Lag is about the same but as Hans said, about 40 more horses and about 50 lb/ft torque.

About the same spool, they both held til redline, but the K27 had more thrust and better throttle response, quicker power delivery...
