Default hp calculator ?

i've found a lot of hp calculators based on quarter mile times, trap speeds, and even a very good one based on known torque values;
http://vlsicad.ucsd.edu/~sharma/Potp...est_intro.html

i'm wondering if there's a way to calculate hp and/or torque based on the following info;
time from 2krpm to 6krpm in fourth gear

anybody know?

well if you know your tq (at a given RPM) then just do that math. (TQ x given RPM) / 5250

You need to measure you mass and your acceleration to calculate the Force (HP). Also, drag resistance comes into play at higher speeds. There are indirect ways of obtaining these values, like the RPM vs gearing vs weight, distance vs time vs weight etc. Thinking about it, I should be able to get this from my GPS.

SImple F=MA, its getting proper values to A that is the issue. The mass is just the weight of the car. I am sure I get velocity and acceleration vs time from my GPS.

A=dV/dt or the acceleration = rate of change in Velocity with time.

that requires quarter mile times. what i need is one that will calculate hp (or tq) based on known distance and time in one gear.

I've managed 12 seconds from 2000 - 6000 in fourth.

Wouldn't that be skewed if you are running varying flywheels/flywheels weights?

I might have 350hp and stock flywheel, thus my time for 2k-6k would be slower than someone with 300hp and lightweight flywheel....no?

Also makes me think how inaccurate 0-60, 1/4 ET/trap speeds are as well assuming one car is running slicks and another on DOT.

The best approach is the one that eliminates ALL variables, or as many as possible.

I think your line of thinking is there, but maybe change from timed of X rpm to X rpm and use X speed at 2K vs speed at X speed at 6K; then factor in mass/weight and the time it took to get X speed to X speed.

But again, spool up would skew those numbers as well because you are not trying to measure performance but hp/tq.
