Default Want to get a Electronic Torque Wrench. Which one?

I am looking for a electronic torque wrench. i dunno which one to get. Snap On has as interchangeable head from 5 to 100 ft lbs or 20 to 240 they go for around $379. Craftsman has a 3/8 from 10 to 100 ft lbs for a 150 dollars less than the snap on.

My project for the next couple months is putting on coil covers, manual rack, control arms, sway bars. so i am going to have to do allot of torquing.

Default Why electronic?

In the world of torque wrenches electronic is not always good.

Just a talked with a machine shop owner who has 6-7 snap on electronic wrenches
He has replaced all of them and is only using beam style torque wrenches.
One of the little know facts with the electronics is the battery's need frequent replacement in real world applications. also there is no low battery indication on the models he was using and he stripped and broke a number of bolts because the battery's where low and the torque values skewed.

Beam style are considered the most accurate you can use and they are adjustable.IMHO...The down side for the beam style is you need to apply smooth steady pressure to the required torque and that is not always possible given the location of some bolts.

Well the batt won be an issue since i have high quality batt and charger and discharger. So i would plan to use fresh batt for just about every use. But very good point.

The snap on electronic wrenches are awesome! I have a 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2". If a guy is going through so many batteries, it is because he is not turning it off after he uses them. They will automatically shut off after 5 minutes, but that is just battery life you are loosing. Oh, and this is in a shop application.

I find the battery issues to be annoying as well. The time I had a problem, the thing had turned off from idling for 5 minutes, I was tired and not paying close attention, etc, and I stripped something. Other than that, they are great, but you need to be extra careful when using them. I think you will use the 5-100 one more often on a 944.

Mark that is what i was thinking. Then have the click type wrench for 100 - 240 ft lbs. I was thinking of getting the 3/8 version. And you can always take out the batt once your done.

I also like the Snap On 'Digi-torque' tech wrenches. Very nice product, they vibrate as you get close to specified torque and beep when you get there. They also tell you what the highest torque value was.

Swivel head is also very useful.

I have the Snap-On 3/4" one too - best tool I ever bought.

Im guessing that the electronic torque wrenches would require calibration just like the click-type wrenches?
