Default Strut mount differences?

I bought some new (actually less used) strut mounts from a rennlister, but they are different from mine. He said they were from an '86 951, same as my car. I'm wondering if mine (or his) might have been replaced with non-turbo mounts at some point by a PO. In the pics, mine are on the right and his are on the left. Any ideas which ones are correct for 951?

Also, I asked this question in another thread but it hasn't been answered yet... when installing progressive springs, does it matter which end is up; the end that has coils closer together or the end with coils further apart?

I have a ton of pictures of engine bays on my computer, and it seems that some cars have the ones on the right, and some have the ones on the left. My car is an 88, and has the ones on the left. The one on the left looks a little beefier. You'd probobly be better off putting them on in palace of your old ones.

Thanks guys, that's what I thought. I'll go ahead with the ones on the left. Anybody know the answer to the progressive springs question (which end goes up)?

one on the left looks like a late mount- which may not fair so well since it has more of an angle to it and yours is meant for the strut to be almost straight up and down compared to the late which has the strut at more of an angle. Late vs. early offset.

Damn your right, Dan. The guy said his was an '86. Guess I'm not going to get this done today.

Default Is all this stuff really necessary?

I'm trying to make sure I have all the right stuff this time... so I've got all this stuff in my shopping cart at Paragon... anyone know if I really need all of this to properly upgrade the front struts on an '86 951? Of course, I also have new springs and Koni inserts as well as what's in this cart. This stuff adds up!

Look closely at that upper strut mount, I believe from paragon thats not the entire mount...just a few pieces of it.

Darwin,

Yup, I'm considering getting those pieces because the rubber in my strut mounts appears to be compressed to a much smaller size than the ones in that picture. I'm hoping that will fix the big "clunk" I hear sometimes when turning the steering wheel at low speed. My theory is that because that rubber is compressed, there is some slop in the mount that lets it float around and make noise. We'll see if it works...
