I have Leda coil overs with hyper coil springs, and I do not use a helper spring. I don't get any binding sounds, and I have never had an issue with the springs not seating properly.

Ballistic- I have that setup but its not fully installed yet so I cant give any reviews yet. Soon I hope.

Doc - thanks -should be much better than the tired stock suspension the car was riding on!!

Sam,

I agree with the others, that the binding/spring pop noise is relatively common with the coilover setups. I have always had it to a certain extent with the 2 cars that I have run race setups on.

Generally get it the most when making tight/slow turns (i.e. in and out of the driveway).

I think its because the perches do not have any stops on them (the factory springs and perches have a stop/ridge that catches the end of the last dead coil for both top and bottom perches). So the spring can be forced to move independently of the perch, and the top and bottom perch do not necessarily have to turn together. So when turning, the top perch will likely stay stationary and the bottom will rotate with the strut - so the spring twists until it shifts on the perches (which causes the pop).

If you already have the struts installed, I would not go to the trouble of removing the tender spring. Its not doing any harm. And if youre like most of us, you will be pulling the front suspension out for some other job, relatively soon. So decide then if you want to remove them or not.

Hi Smokin
I see you have been around for some time. What sway bars are you running? What setting do you run on the Leda's?

BTW: Is that a Great Dane?

I have fixed dampening Leda coil overs. The rear springs are #450 (torsion bars deleted) and I'm ashamed to say that I don't know what my front springs are. The whole setup came with an engine-less S2 that I ended up selling to a friend. My sways are still stock, but its not a track car, so Im not worried about it right this minute. I have only driven a couple hundred miles on the Ledas, because I put them on at the end of the season and didnt have time / money for a good alignment. This winter I replaced the ball joints, sway bar bushings, caster blocks, and tie rod ends, so hopefully the car will handle well this season! And to answer your question the dog is a boxer. Ben belongs to another rennlist member.... I tried to get him to come under the car to look out with me, but he couldn't figure it out.

I drove a boxster s with leadas and cup cars that make the popping sound and the binding sounds making tight turns.
