Default Running at 140mph at the track and I smell fuel....

Went to TWS today and was getting in some nice laps when I started noticing the smell of fuel in the cabin. I had put 50/50 104/93 octane in the tank and pulled into the hot pit worrying that I was seconds from becoming a Car-B-Que. Nothing visible on the fuel rails or under the car, so I went back out. The smell returned so I backed off and went into the garage. Jacked up the car and the fuel is dripping from behind the rear wheel - doesn't look like the fuel pump though. I look inside the car and there is about 8 oz of gas in the rear passenger side storage well. I am guessing it is the fuel vent line has cracked somewhere but I don't see anything. Anyone else experience this?

Pull up the hatch carpet, youll see a white patch of stuff that looks like fiberglass matting. Pull that up, and thats the top of the gas tank, where the return hose goes. Maybe thats cracked, or the filler neck?

Did you fill the car up before you went out? I'm not sure how the back of your car is but since it was in the rear compartment, I'm guessing filler neck hose...do you have the rear trim on, if so you still have to remove the sheet metal to get to it.
good luck. What was the temp? Wish we were there but I've got the car and headed to Barber Motorsports next month.

there is a line that tee's into the sunroof drain that is for gas runoff in the filler area. Sometimes those crack and leak into the quarter. Gas also comes out of the gas cap during extreme cornering if the cap is loose, leaking or the check ball is not fuctioning properly in the neck and it comes out the breather hole.

How about the seal on the top of the tank? I think that is were my smell is coming from. (Perhaps the same thing you are all talking about)

I am going to check on all these suggestions. I have never had any problems before, and it could be as simple as not tightening down the cap all the way - first thing I checked and it was slightly loose. It doesn't leak when sitting still which makes me think the cornering drove the gas out the neck but I need to check for sure

Temps were 45F today. Dry track, fresh Hoosier R6's. Life is good

I had gas come out the neck of my 924S at LRP after I filled it all the way.

The gas was trying to escape the horrible death that was awaiting it in your impossibly tweaked combustion chambers
