I've driven both the regular and sport versions at a ride&drive day about 2 years ago. The car was just as go-kart like as I expected in the corners and on the brakes, but I was completely unsatisfied with its power. "Adding lightness" can only do so much, you need a little HP to do the rest. 190 hp/ 138 ft-lbs. Weak. Bump those figures up to about ~250 each and the car would be amazing.
I haven't driven an Exige S, but I'd imagine it would be much more thrilling to drive. In direct comparisons, I'd say the Elise was about as exciting under power as a new Miata, not even as fun as the gutless S2k.
