Default What makes a good DE motor.

Ok guys

What changes from stock would you guys recommend for a 951 track engine?

I don't mean to gain HP I am more interested in gaining reliability.

I will start the list.

O-ringed Head or Block.
Oil Pan Baffles

What else?

Good oil -- maybe an extra oil cooler and lots of oil changes.

Of course keep everything clean (you'll be able to diagnose and fix things faster and it will stay cooler).

Good quality coolant properly bled.

When not overstressed, and when maintenance has been performed religously and correctly, these engines will run and run and run and run.

I don't understand the benefits of all the drilling and what not.

Can someone shed some light on that?

I see.

You say "in Hopes" I take it even with that they are prone to fail?

whats the disadvantage of perp drilling? I had my last motors crank xdrilled perp on the rods just like the mains are from the factory. Installed the scraper and pan baffle and never had a problem afterwards.

anytime you starve the bottom end you are prone to spin a bearing or worse. These cars tend to do so when sticky tires are used because the oil sloshes away from the siphon for the oil pump -hence the oil pan baffle to keep oil around the sump. Drilling the crank keeps more oil on the bearings in case of temporary starvation, and the scraper keeps the oil in the pan instead of slinging around the bottom end.

Great info thanks.

I have experience spinning rod bearings.

That was not fun.

Too broad a question. You need to be more specific about the chassis, engine mods, rpm limit and driver skill/aggressiveness if you want an answer that will do you any good.
