Slightly off topic but does anyone know who was driving the checkered black and white 944 turbo on the Cannonball a couple of years back which broke down in the mountains due to a diff failure?

Hi Guns,
I have been looking at the Cannonball site. Was thinking of taking a car over to US and doing it. Have you lost your entry deposit? It was $10k to enter right?

Cheers
Tom

Yes 10k to enter, I'll get all but $400 back which isn't a big deal. If you decide to do the run good luck!

Can't wait to see the progress of the 951 Guns. There will always be another rallye to enter!
Soo any changes to the fundamental specs of the car and engine??

Yes, quite a few actually...Since you're the first to ask I'll give a taste....

Dymag carbon fiber wheels made specific for this car's offset
Centerlock wheel hubs
Tube frame from strut towers forward (PCA mandates stock strut towers for racing)
Tube frame rear and aluminum rear floor section
Full cage front to back with door bars
Fiberglass doors
Redesigned rear fender area for escaping air, going factory style with it
Delete undercoat

The main thing to consider here is what the 911 GT1 had as a "race car on the street" is what i'm modeling mine after.

Thanks, BTW everyone, the wife said we're runing the event Porsche or no Porsche - so we're going to drive the e60 550i. This means new lightweight wheels and a paddle shift kit for it! But ya'll don't care about the bimmers

Tommo - actually I would have lost the entire deposit if I didn't enter the BMW.

Wow, she is going to let you take that and do this event? That's nice of her. And hey, you can at least have a comfortable car for this long haul, and shift paddles too! Why don't you get a racing exhaust for it with no cat and throw in some xylene too?

Be truthful, the reason you aren't running the 951 was the lack of monkey space....................

good luck with the BMW.

That sucks Guns, but it'll still be a blast. Nothing better than a high speed run across country with a bunch of like minded people. Now I see what you meant about "the same time". That sucks, but atleast you'll have it done how you want it. I know a thing or two about that, hence my car not seeing the road in 2005 and coming back off at the end of '06. Good luck, I'm sure it'll turn out great!
