Kuhmo MX; best for the money
read somewhere a test where they were only a hair under, performance wise, than tires twice the price.
Just to give you an idea:
I have them now, and they grip better than the Pirelli assemitrico I had last, which was the coveted tire a few years back.

michelin pilot sports are awsome- have them on currently- also loved my T1S's cant remember what brand but i dont think they make them anymore. For the $ from tirerack you can get some firestone firehawks- had them on my n/a and they were awsome and not too much $.

It's a shame the remaining SO-3's are in such limited sizes. I have a new set (100 miles) of 245-45-16's that came with the silver car. They have been mounted and unused in a storage building for 3 years and I wonder if they are age hardened or have any serviceablity issues?

Summitomos are $hit and you'll have more road noise than your stereo can cover up in 5000 miles. Not sure who didn't like the Goodyear F1 DS G3 or vice versa on the last 4 letters, but I love em, have loved em. I have them on the 944T and the wifes C320. Quiet, nice ride, great cornering, and you can lower the pressure to 32/34 for an even better ride if going on a weekend trip - in the p-car. I bump them up to 36-38 if I go play with the car real hard. I just put new ones on the 944T since they had the rears on @ $167 (255/40/17R and 225/45/17F) F @ $143.

Bridgestone RE-01R

Stock size available too, which was a selling point for me.

Khumo MX X 2

Don't be mislead by other khumo models - nothing like the other junk *** khumo tires.
A true performer. Good wear, and noise, very economical. Limited sizes in 16", but unless you need 245 should have what you need

Hankook Ventus RS-2's are excellent tires. I've had them on a couple different cars and will be buying another set of them as soon as I need to replace the tires on my 951. They stick very well on the street, and everyone I know that has used them on the track says they're very consistent and don't get too greasy or chunk like many other high-performance street tires. They're definitely not an all seeason tire but they should do just fine in most rain situations.

You don't mention what size of wheels you're looking to put them on; some tires have better availability in different sizes. What I've heard as far as good performing tires for cheap is the Hankook Z212 for 16" wheels, and for 17" wheels the Kumho MX. I have no direct experience with either, but I do have a set of MXs that I'm picking up this weekend.

vanwyk4257 - I am waiting for hankook 212 tires to arive myself. What kind of use and mileage you getting on 212s?

I was really looking for a true track tire, that will serve dual purpose street use (and rain).
Everything I see says will be great for my use but as expected a bit short on mileage.

Just say NO to Yokohama Sports

I liked
Michelin Pilot Sports - Stickiest Dry
Bridgestone Pole Position SO3 - Stickiest Wet
Pirelli Pzero Neros - Between the two Dry and Wet.

My 07 BMW X3 Sport package came with PZero Rossos.

I have the Hankooks Z212 and they are awesome on the street, yea the ride is a little bumpy, but they are super stable over 100 and don't squirm in tight turns, I've had them 6 months now and I have no complaints, don't see any tire wear so far, look like new, but then again, it is a weekend car...will definitely buying a set, got these for $400 all four, can't beat that!
