Default Polished suspension parts??

While I have my A arms off I thought about polishing them and coating them with a special tough clear wheel paint.

Any body ever do this?
Is this a dumb idea?
A waste of elbow grease??;^)

Would be very nice, I think. Por 15 has a wheel refinishing kit with a brush on clear finish. That would be pretty tough I think.

It was a lot of work! Took some time to get them the way I wanted them. I probably have 12 to 15 hrs in one arm as they are cast and you must smooth them to get good results!

Mike I was thinking of doing the same thing to my torq tube!! I saw the pic's you had of yours. How pitted was the piece when you took it down ? will it be hard to smooth it out ?

Not pitted at all, it'd be very easy. Just started with a a 2 or 400 and only worked upto 800 for paint prep. Another hour with power tools and another hour with compound and it would've been gorgeous! I really need to finish my other one.

I started out by cleaning the metal real good then I used a angle grinder to smooth out and clean up. Then I went 80 grit with a da sander and took it all the way back up to a 1500 before polishing!

1200° aluminum, bake @ 200° for an hour, cool and then coat with 500° while warm. Really a simple recipe.

Nice work guys!

I'm gonna do it.
I'm sure my orbital sander will help expedite the whole process.

Also I'm thinking of using something like this.>Nano Clear
or THIS
It's supposed to stick to chrome or a highly polished surface. Or possibly the POR product..........
