Default Rx7 oil cooler - what year range for donor cars?

I see in the archives the part referred to as being from a "gen2" RX-7. I can picture the car in my head; anyone happen to know the exact years that you can pull this part from?

Also, is it all RX's in that range or just a specific model (like the turbo or ???)

TIA!

Jeff

I'm not sure of the year off hand, but I can take a look at the one on my car to see if I can find a part number for you or the e-mails from when I bought it.

The second generation RX7 was from 1986 - 1990. I believe they all had the same oil cooler.

yes, most RX-7 from 1984 and on had a oil cooler up front. The early ones had a water to oil heat echanger. Most of the ones I get are from the 1986 and on. It is simple really. All you need is a set on custum oil lines and some alum. brakects to mount it.

AL

Its a real straight foward install. It almost the same width as the radiator. I don't have any pics but you make some simple brackets that mount to each side of the support and make up some hoses.

I think "9fitty1" has one for sale or he is going to sell it. You should pm him or maybe he will see this.

Dave, wasnt there a thread a while ago, where someone posted pics of two of them stacked? It looked nice, but I don't know about the set-up or efficiency of them. Do you remember what I'm talking about?

Sorry Rob, I don't remember that but, eventually you have to watch out for pressure drops. Stacking two together or running a lot of coolers in series can get you in trouble.

I'm not sure if the twin RX7 route is bad. I never tested the pressure drop but I have in cheap generic oil coolers and some are real bad.
