here was what he put in the for sale ad "I have a clean 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo Thats all stock with 138500 miles on the body it has a rebuilt head, and all new injector orings, ehxhaust manifold gaskets, timing, and a new fuel pump with sending unit that all have a 12000/ 1 yr warranty, and i have the receipts for all this also that the buyer will get. All of the work was done 1200 Miles ago. the car also had a full Tune up 800 miles ago . it is all stock, except for the tires and exhaust, it has all power options including the sunroof, everything works except for the fact that it needs a clutch , i dont want to sell her, but its my loss your gain. the only reason i have to, is because i have way to many bills, and another car, it has burgendy leather interior, the car is clean inside and out, if your interested, i will be glad to let come check it out. its starts right up with every turn of the key"

How much is he asking? A clutch is very expensive if you don't do it yourself.

Clutch = minimum $2k if you have someone do it.

How much is the car selling for? You can find lower a lower miles car for about $8k. Keep one thing in mind, there is no such thing as a cheap Porsche, pay now or pay later ESPECIALLY with the turbocharged cars.

i was looking for clutch kits i think the cheapest i found was $700 new and it was oem and i have somebody that would put it on for free

also, i only have about $4k to spend haha...im in college right now and i dont have that much money anyways, but even if i bought a cheaper car that needed some repairs, i can have all the repairs done for free, so its not a huge concern for me

For $4000 and in college? Buy a Honda , run rhe wheels off of it and study. Then when you have a decent JOB, buy a real nice 951 and not settle for junk that needs repair. EdC aka a Dad.

The purchase price is just the price of admission.

Ditto this advice! Get a beater for college, get a job, save money and pay cash. If you defer gratification now you'll be buying new cars debt free when your friends who made fun of you all those years for driving a beater are in debt to their eyeballs.

I dissagree. I am a 18 y/o in community college (freshman) and can afford both repairs/ performance mods for my car. Im guessing his parents are putting him through school (like me) and what is he going to spend his money on? his car...might as well be the 951 so he can enjoy it more when he gets out of college.

I bought mine w/ higher miles so i could "build it with the money i gained through college and will buy a nicer car when i get out. then the 951 is dedicated track car. I agree that a porsche can get you in financial problems if you are young and in school but you just have to make sure you have another option for if it breaks and you cant buy a new transmission or w/e. my plan B is my other car (95' eclipse gsx) but as long as you have a few extra bucks for a total beater while the 951 is down then you will be ok.

So as someone your age i say go for it because you will never want to sell it and no other car will give you so much satisfaction (for the money). But be responsible...haha...thats just what my dad told me.

I am somewhere in the middle of this advice. I bought my first 944 at 18, the turbo @ 21. Get a regular 944 and get used to the handling etc, upgrade the suspension etc then do some DEs and a few track events eventually. From there go and get a turbo.

Yes when you buy you'll never want to sell it, but hold out for a beauty that is almost perfect. There are many out there to be had, don't let impatiance get ahold of you. If you want to get into the Pcar family, get a 944 with the late interior style (85.5 and up).
