The headers will be coated to retain heat as much as possible...if I don't go with one of Tim's coatings (that look like works of art) I might go with a distinct satin gold color on the headers & head like Porsche used on some of the 16v race motors from the 924 GTP.

Calico makes some great stuff thats either rejection or retention minded. I'm trying to make the motor look like something the factory would have produced if they actually loved the 944 series of cars as much as the 911.

Also concerning pricing on the foil, I don't think its actual gold foil which would allow it to be much less expensive. I have to call up C&R racing tonight to talk to them about that and my custom radiator. I'll post up the info after I call them.

Hmmm…maybe I should rename 944enhancement to the “bling factory”!
Rolex wants lots of shiny silver and now you go for the gold…..

Just kidding guys. The gold foil is actually a great product for heat protection. Used right I think it will look pretty good.

Well I just checked...the gold foil is IN! its only 15 bucks per square foot, so doing the under side of the hood and entire engine bay should work out just fine!

BTW Chris I just called C&R.... calling you to discuss sizes

I think that Guns and Brian are both out to beat me with the "bling" factor. Guns is going for the Gold and Brian is going for the Silver! And me? Well, looks like I'll have settle for just the Bronze, oh well.

Hahaha, I hate bling on my cars you know that....its about functionality is all I watched the 5th Gear episode on the making of the McLaren F1 and was like....hmmmm gold.....heat reflector....yeeeeeeeaaaaah

BTW with the sizing on the radiator, talking to C&R I'm going to be in the neighborhood or 34" wide and stock height.

Lorax:Haha, rover, thanks man - don't worry I'm not letting up any time soon with the ideas

Hey Guns,
If you're going for a rad that size I highly recommend going with a built in heat exchanger for the oil. Water is over 3500 times more efficient at removing heat. It's no fluke that most modern race cars (and NASCAR) are using this more and more in comparison to the old air system.

hey Guns,
An FYI for you. Kinesis has been sold to some bull**** boysindahood operation. Since you bought Mikes wheels, now is the time to start sourcing back up parts for when you bash one of your wheels at the track. Apparently the new idiots don't even have molds, etc for replacement parts. There is a thread about it in the racing forum.

Thanks ehall I posted the link to that in the rear wheel size thread. I'm appaled (sp?) as well. If I wreck any of Mike's wheels I'll just go with the Dymag cf wheels. But since I'll only drive it maybe once or twice a year after the run, I'm not too worried. Word on the street is the replacement rim halves etc are already extremely scarce and over priced. sad to see.

Diago, that's something i'm talking with Chris about - most of this is still in the prototype stage, but I only have about a week until I HAVE to get one on the way to the shop. Also with something that big I'm worried about is the amount of pressure drop from using something so big for an oil cooler as well. With the SFR unit I know its tried and tested - the last thing i want to do is build this up and have a weak link somewhere....but thanks for the idea & pic!!!

I truly could not be doing this project if it wasn't for all the great guys around here. The info, ideas, experience etc. I just want to say a big thanks to all as through all the ball busting and laughs we've had the information shared is what makes this project so interesting and great. Cheers to all friends.

No problem. Actually pressure drop won't be a problem. Inside the radiator's end tank is what for all intents and purposes is an oil cooler that looks just like a regular air/oil cooler. It's about the same size as the stock one. It's just that it have the water going through the fins to remove the heat rather than air. So a search on ebay motors for C&R and you'll find great examples for sale for under 300. Sometimes their just new spared the teams are liquidating. I've had one in every racecar I've ever built.

Purchased Radiator....

Stats:
C&R Nextel Cup Car rad. being liquidated by team
32" x 19" x 5" with water cooled oil cooler & 16" SPAL fan
AN fittings for the oil stuff

Pics attached are not the actual one I'm getting. Yes I sourced it on evilbay due to the fact I can't wait a month for C&R to build me one for the car (the shop needs it to build the frame around). So making the best of a worst case senerio I got a $1,300 ++ radiator for $450.

Flame away.

If its good for a 700 + bhp V8 then its good enough for me!

Thanks ballistic, I just want to make sure every part I use is on this thread for anyone in the future who wants to do something like this.
