OK, from the really blurry pictures (sorry couldn't help myself) I think you ran into the same problem I had. Did the connector on the sensor side just break apart leaving the pins exposed? If it did, you need to purchase at least a new connector or a complete sensor assembly. You can tape them up but it is a accident waiting to happen.

Ski, I just got back from the store with some Foster cans and the picture was a lot better.

here is what a sensor end (male) should look like

then there should be a little copper retainer that snaps into place, actually through the speed and reference sensor bracket, that also has a plastic reseptacle to hold the connected O2 sensor.

ohhh crappy... ya I need a new connector I didnt put alot of force on it but I guess it was enough to rip the connector into two. I do have the copper bracket though.

Does it look like this?

It is common for the connector on the sensor side to just crumble apart. The connector on the wire harness side doesn't do this.

The whole black thing on the sensor side is gone on both the sensors. I did hear something fall so Im sure they fell apart.

That electrical looking stuff wrapped around the wire is probably the label for that sensor. That's what mine looked like; just unroll it. Although the whole thing is mute now.

I just replaced mine on my old 83 NA last summer it wasn't too hard. Well, it did take a long time to get the old male part out since it was OE.

Anyone know if the speed are ref. sensors are two differant part numbers or are they both the same part? A couple places that I've looked only have one listed.

same sensor. It's always a good idea to keep an old one around because if you ever remove the bracket, you need to glue a .8mm washer on the bottom of the speed sensor to get the correct setting for that sensor then tighten down the bracket. This has led a lot of people to start notching the bell housing so that you don't even have to remove the sensors when pulling the bell housing.

Dan on these forums actually made me a tool. you just put it where the sensor goes and put a bolt in. Make it so that it hits the bell housing and then tighten the bracket down. Its pretty neat, maybe he can chime in with a picture.
