With no exhaust? No problem there. Though, you ideally want a turbo elbow (what some here call the "downpipe"; pipe directly off the turbo) at the least to act as a heatsink. Not running anything and just having the exhaust exit right at the exhaust housing could cause some thermal issues that could lead to short turbo life. I'm not enough of an expert to know whether those potential "issues" have any real noticeable or serious implications in real life, though the science behind it makes sense to me at least. Basically you are "trapping" a large amount of heat right at the exhaust housing as theoretically you wouldn't have anything there to direct the heat/exhaust flow away from the turbo (assuming absolutely no exhaust components). This could potentially shorten bearing life, wear away at oil seals, etc. Anyways, there is nothing wrong with running only a downpipe/cat pipe as long as you don't mind the fumes and don't get a ticket for it! Running the turbo elbow/downpipe only could cause some potential heat issues since there are some components in the engine bay very near to this area like the brake booster.

Personally though Blacknredgt, knowing Schertz police, I wouldn't risk it. They can be pretty **** sometimes. Don't worry, I promise you I WILL be there tomorrow and we'll get this straightened out!

I shouldn't admit to this, but I ran it this way once on a 70-ish mile trip once. It was way back when I was having trouble diagnosing my clogged catylitic converter (car wouldn't build boost) so I dropped the downpipe & cat pipe off the car to test it and observed an immediate rise in boost levels. To finish diagnosing, I hopped in it and drove it up to another guy's place to finish diagnosing and (finally) reassemble the exhaust with a good/unclogged cat. It was mostly highway miles (a little stop-go) and I was horridly worried about it the whole time - even put a CO detector in the cabin with me (which didn't darken at all, thankfully). Sounded pretty freekin' sweet though. . .

Probably wouldn't recommend running like that all the time though.

It was on the 944, exhaust was rusted through and broke off just before the cat. So I drove it around like that for a month until I got the headers and exhaust system...I was stuck in west texas...it sounded half IRL indy car and half Tommy dorsey trombone section.

Oh ok, you get some slack. Are you gonna run that Lindsey 4 inch system on the Gulf race car too? Or no?

lol... well mixed reviews I guess... I do have the downpipe on but I still think there would be some heat issues but some people have done it...... so?? Hopefully Travis (Porschefile) can come help me out, otherwise Im gonna run it with just the downpipe and see what happens (and I will take a sound clip haha)

But the last thing I would want to do is mess up that rear main seal and start the clutch removal process over again (thats a killer to me)

And yes, I did give some sound advice to this thread too to help out the author with his problem, so it wasn't all play. And by the way, where is Mr SBA Sponsor Lart on this thread, no where to be found? Why not, peddling to many 944T parts now on evilbay?

Lart trying to sell on evilBay--->
