The tissue is then "cooked" so it can be cut and slides made to then send to the Pathologist. Due to recent OHSA/CETA regs most hospital labs have been forced to purchase $30,000 xylene recyclers so the used up stuff can be disposed of properly. Before this, they paid as much as $250/55 gal to get rid of it. So if any of you guys get to know your friendly local Histology Tech, there should be an unlimited supply of Xylene.

I'll stick to 100 octaine.....Xylene is a known & powerful carcinogen.
"Histology Tech"

Fuel : 10 Gallons at 93 octane = 930
Fuel 2 : 1 Gallon at 117 octane = 117
Total Octane : 1047
Total Gallons (if dry when filling) : 11
Octane per gallon : 95.18

Now, as ST said, you never want to run more then a 40% because of glazing on the spark plugs but I see some are running 25% xylene. Running a 25% mix you yield a 99 with 93 at the pump. Bump up to 94 at the pump and 25% xylene would get you 99.75. At max 40% on 93 would get you 102.6.

And 1.5 octane per psi boost increase to be safe.

I always rememebr a 3:2 range. 3 octane increase and you can run 2 more psi of boost.

Interesting points I wasn't aware of from the Vette site:

The effect additional toluene or xylene has on pump gas is unpredictable for two reasons:

1) the octane boosting ability of both is less effective on premium pump gases than on regular grade gas because of the aromatics premium gases already contain,

2) toluene and xylene have high octane ratings alone but may have lower octane when blended with other gasoline components and must be carefully tested when mixed with other gasoline components.

Toluene and xylene have specific gravities higher than pump gas so the more of them you add, the leaner you need to calibrate the engine’s air/fuel ratio. (so you have higher octane and are "chemically richer" ???)

Once you calibrate for toluene- or xylene-spiked, DIY racing gas; don’t go back to running conventional gasoline until you recalibrate to a richer mixture or you’ll be burning pistons.

Here's a pic of what Special Tool's car looks like after he uses xylene and starts it up.

toddk911..........
Sorry I don't know any Histo Techs from Fl.
Just go to your local hospital and tell'em you
are there to recycle their Xylene. Likely
they give you barrels of the stuff. Reagent grade too!

BTW........
WV shine = 114 octaine
FL shine = 87 octaine

So, it's more pure than the industrial strength. Who cares if it had AIDS in it or other leathal diseases, use it in the car! I know ST would!
