Default The car with the "bubble"? (Body Modifications)

I've been reading a lot of posts about modifying the 951's appearance(chopping the top, raked windshield and other photoshop goodies). I love the way the 951 looks from some angles but see what some people mean about it being called the "car with the bubble" where the car appears to be bulky in the rear. The passenger compartment looks to be pushed back farther to the rear than some of the other exotic cars (love the extra leg room, though).

This car is great in so many ways such as:
1) It's a Porsche
2) It's a 4 cyl. with good gas mileage (if you stay off the turbo) but serious performance upon demand
3) One of the best handling cars ever
4) Parts availability and performance mods from several vendors
5) Relatively inexpensive to acquire (and maintain if you're a good wrench or have an honest mechanic)

I already put so much into this car, I hate to sell it. I'd like to have a Supercar to play around with but am considering selling it for a Ferrari 328/Maserati Bora or something else later or attempting some serious body mods. I know the other post was aimed at some funny pictures of the 951 but are there any Photoshop experts who want to post some designs to make the 951 look more exotic like a Ferrari, etc.? I look forward to seeing your ideas.

Dude!
If I could afford a 328 I'd be all over that! I'm not sure good gas mileage belongs on your pros and cons list, yeah - stay off boost, right...

Seriously, neither car is a DD in my book, 951's and 328's would make me a nervous wreck in the Kroger lot, I say keep them both, do some crazy mods to the 951 and make sure you put some pics of both up for us all!! You will only end up wanting the Porsche back if you sell it and you only live once...

It would be very difficult to update the rear end. Especially with the old school tail lights and wide fenders. By far the cleanest rear i've seen is this one:
It's clean, simple and still looks like a 944.

I forget his name exactly, but his car is gorgeous! He spent a LOT of time doing all of that work to it and it was well worth it IMO. Also, on the topic of this thread, I think the entire 924/944/968 series looks great as they are. They were never meant to be supercars or "exotic" cars (IMO). They're a lot more practical than the ferrari, too! and my car is my DD, perfect in the parking lot, and decent gas mileage. I say leave it as it is! unless of course it's a dedicated track car...then I say go wiiiiiiiiide

^^^Amen to the wideness.

I think I have one of the more heavily modified 951s here concerning body appearance, these cars will always look "Porsche" which is where form follows function. The 'bubble' at the back to me is like the rear of a leapord getting ready to pounce with the flares are the leg haunches. Its aerodynamically clean and simple, the way it should be.

These will never look like a Fcar - if you want that look get a 308.

Every 944 I've seen with drastic rear modifications usually gets laughed at here on Rennlist. The "bubble" in my view is a very functional feature that no other porsche enjoys. One of the biggest complaints I had with my 911 bodied car was the lack of hauling space.

Hmmm..I just tried a photoshop sample program and didn't know what I was doing but scribbled up this "rough draft" which would look interesting. It would also be a pain to build and probably handle like crap but definitely changes the look of the car. I'm sure someone can do better. Bring 'em on!

Also, to the gentleman asking about the "custom timing belt", it's a belt which is wider and shorter and routed from the cam to the crank with nothing to make it fail since the water pump pulley has been eliminated.

Firstly I agree that there are some angles of our cars that are better than others. The best is from the front at a 3/4 angle looking up the side to the rear. The side angle can make the rear glass look a bit bulbous but to suggest trading 'up' to a 328, well best of luck. I used to eat them up in the '80's with my VW golf with a bolt on turbo. Our cars kick those 'Dancing Horses' asses easily!!!

Is we can do something with those rear lights (crystals maybe?) it would probably stand out better, the 944 shares the same tail lights as the volvo.
