I like the design of the 944/951 precisely because it DOESN'T try to pretend it's a Ferrari, Maserati or Lamborghini like half the Jap cars today rip off their lines from. It IS unique, always WAS unique and likely always will be. The only thing that comes close is the RX7, and that was ripped off from the 924/924S.
Some who say the 944's rear end is "dated" need their heads examined. I'd say it's "distinctive" more than dated - much in the same way that the 928 rear end is distinctive. It defines the vehicle from the point of view that most people end up seeing it from anyway.

Completely agree, two different cars. I like the clean look of the 951, and the relative lack of attention compared to the Ferrari's, etc. but don't pick a fight with it, the little 4-pot has a secert! Still coudn't get myself to drive either as a DD, but that is just me. But if you want exotic and 951, you can't beat what Guns951 is doing, that car is the schiet!

Tony is right, on the Fcar boards all those guys will admit (they all know what a 951 is) that these cars will blow theirs out of the water, but then again the Fcar is a different attitude, a different experience.
But I think we're getting away from the spirit of this thread. How to update the looks (radically and not through purist means) of our beloved 951s.
I'll post up what i have in a minute. One of my fav. ideas and what I'm doing on this current project is getting the drip rails shaved and the gap above the passenger window closed to yield a cleaner look.
Want to go further? Get the windows to operate like the '94 BMW 3 series where there is no door frame around the window. Cut off the window frame, weld it to the body, remove the outter lip, rework the seals, wire up a release so the window will drop an inch when you grab the handle and boom it will look like the below picture. Then figure out how to make the doors open like the Koinegsegg and you will have something interesting.

I just imagined Guns' car with a 968 rear end with that 9ff GT2 wing on custom 951 mounts(from the 9ff 951 thread a while back) and creamed myself.....
Great job on the car, Guns. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Some good ideas out there. There's no doubt the 951 has much more potential as far as performance. The 328 has about 260hp and is not the best handling car out there. I'm referring to the experience of it as another Rennlister stated. The Ferrari has the looks and screaming engine that attract me so much. I'd be a little apprehensive about owning one because of parts availability, costs and if that motor blew up, it would be a financial disaster. My alternative is keeping the 951 and modifying it to look more exotic. When I get some days off soon, I'm going to fiddle around with Photoshop some more. Keep the ideas coming!

There are some good design ideas on this race car. I can't see the rear very well, though, and the cut-outs in the doors are a nice touch (brake cooling ducts, I guess). Anyone have some more pics of the wide body rear panels on a 924 or 944? Looks funky but if a rear panel with blacked-out tail lights was mounted over the stock 944 lights, I think we'd be on to something.

Bro look up the thread to the pic of the two rear ends, those are the GTRs, the tape on the rear says GTP 1&2 but they are GTRs much different rear end than the 924 GTPs. Search the forum to get the 951 GTR thread and you'll see all of the pics and info. If you plan on spending 15k to have fabcar replicate the rear fenders and about 50-60k total for body work then sure its the way to go. But look for a total investment of over, OVER 200k to build something like this. The originals go for around the same.
Edit: Found the link for you...I was going to build up something very similar but when I heard the costs I changed my mind quickly.
GTR Thread
**Edit
Okay I may have been too harsh, if you choose to get parts from GT racing be ready for a huge bill from the body shop. You won't look like the GTRs but you'll be close to a GTP.

I alway have felt that the rear lenses look somewhat dated. I think a blacked out lenses with rows of led lights to replace the bulbs would look much more modern.
