I had a long discussion with Zoran who has a well documented 968turbo and he has spent plenty of $ on his car over time. He said he experienced head lift at 28-30psi which yielded approx 450kw at the wheels. He has ARP headstuds and stock headgaskets. There is also someone else down here who drills the block right through and has studs all the way into the girdle I believe and supposedly he has had success with this, but I don't believe this person is hitting any real boost levels so not sure how to take that. You could also easily be more prone to stud stretch due to the extra length.

Looking through some old threads, there seems to be a recurring pattern of headlift on engines with aftermarket studs. My guess is that with the right stud / gasket combination headlift would not be a problem. Maybe someone knows what this combination is?

Yes but you're also talking about engines under high boost levels too. I haven't heard of lift on normal to moderate (23psi) levels. Only up into the high 20's and over. I guess the theory is that while the stock studs are actually pretty large especially compared to a 911's, that going for a larger bolt should spread the load better, but you possibly face issues with the thread? 99% of owners are not going to see such high boost anyway so it shouldn't be a problem but for the very adventurous. Oh, and I'm assuming an increase of diameter of the studs in this case.
As an extension to this discussion, what other issues can we expect to face at higher boost? Lets assume we have a good tune and race or equivalent high oct fuel, what else could fail?

A GT35R with T04S will clear the intake manifold depending on the oil return adapter used.

I use the Lindsey turbo oil filter kit for my feed line. The filter sits where my fuel vapor purge diaphragm used to be and it then runs into the turbo from the right rather the the left in between the motor and turbo.

You can see in the top right of this pic with the line running through the turbo water pump bracket.

This is where the filter sits

Holy old threads batman!

Eniac, a Gt45r is an 80mm 1100hp turbo just fyi. You would be taking it easy on your motor in comparison by alternatively blowing the head off your motor with 50lbs of C4! That would be some serious work to try and make it withstand that turbo and 40+psi, not to mention a lag monster.

I know that's why I'm still looking. If I ran a GT45r I would have to install a small supercharger to feed it, lol. If I had an 8k redline, the 45r would be great.

Regardless of what turbo I use, I am confident our engines can withstand 40+ psi provided the timing was right with a steady AFR. I use xylene now but will be adding a meth injection along with it. I don't drag race so lag shouldn't be much of an issue with proper driving. I've seen larger turbos on a 2.5l. I'm also going after top end power. I hope to enter an open road race before I get too old.

Ah, I'm doing fine. This godd@mn real estate industry is killing me though! (please excuse the language) I sold my 911 to a friend and have been Porsche-less since December *disclaimer* "May lead to feelings of worthlessness......". I'm just itching to buy another one of these cars again and a 911, but I'm forcing myself to take at least a 1 year break from sports cars and modifying cars to get my head and pocket book straight.

80mm+ and you might want to build that thing to 10k rpm to get any sort of powerband! j/k I always try to look at it in terms of desired power output. Once you determine that and your intended use/purpose, it's not hard to decide where to go from there. Anything single turbo and BIIIIIIGGGGG is good in my book!

Well at least you'll be glad that your original turbo is going into a nice motor. There will be a write up soon explaining in more detail what's going into this build.
