Before painting a helmet, consult the helmet manufacturer. Some manufacturer warranties are void if the helmet is painted. Other manufacturers allow painting, but specific paints must be used which are compatible with the helmet structural material and/or the factory primer and/or paint.

Dude, are you nuts here? Youre kidding right? With the car you are having made, the name you have, you should get a custom painted helmet. They are tons of top noctch/kool *** designers that due AMA Motorcross, F1 Helmets, Indy, IMSA, etc. One company you need to look into is Troy Lee Designs. But what you need to undersand is that you need to provide them theme, some colos, etc. Or if you don't care, you can tell them what colors you like, and they will paint you something they like. I have two helmets done by them, and the artwork is fabulous. Go to the site and look at his work. PM me for ideas and details. I am going to get another helmet I think from him too. But either way, you need to first start off with the helmet you want. And since your helmet is for a closed car, there are certain ones you want to look at versus others. The ones I used in racing, with a cool suit, arent the same ones Id used in open-wheel. Email dude, and Ill explain. I high jacked this thread enough, sorry

mainly the problems with painting helmets and voiding warranties stems from using Laquer paints which have a harsh solvent base and eat into the gelcoat of the fiberglass. Use eurethane only paints and youll have no problems

- i bought my pyrotect from www.soloracer.com

Can you use motorcycle helmets at track days? It seems that they run cheaper price wise...

Besides painting, there are tape options. Check ads in Motorcycle magazines for sources.

Be sure to try on the helmet before you buy. The same size from one maker can fit diferent than aonother.

Some groups allow them, some don't. The trend is moving toward SA rated only.
