Default ALWAYS SOMETHING!!!

OK, how do you fix a broken hood release cable????

It is broken out at the engine bay side so I can't even pull the wire to try to get it open to fix.

And abvioulsy I can not get the hood un latched.

Any way to fix this easy or get at the release from under the car without pulling the damn motor?????????

You can pop the hood using a very long flat head from under the car. It's a tight fit but can be done.

Dude, you're being plagued with bad luck lately. I suggest an oily sacrifice to the Porsche gods to appease them. What have you done to **** them off? Did you drive a Honda or something?

Help-Hood Release cable broke cant open hood...
« on: Oct 7th, 2006, 7:57pm » Quote Modify

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
86 - 951 (944 Turbo)
Problem:
Hood release cable snaped aparently near hood latch rendering the normal release useless...

Situation:
Cant get the hood latch to release from below.

From under the car I can see a plate protecting the linkage but cant see the linkage. My manual shows the linkage....but not what I'M SEEING...

I see a round head flat screw slot in a section of the plate. Figured I could turn that to release it, but man that thing wont budge... Even fabricated a huge screwdriver for torque from flat plate and pipe but still the thing wont budge....

Am I missing something, trick or tool?
Any assiistance will be greatly appreciated!!!
Thx,
David

OK -
I checked with a couple of repair shops we deal with and they tell me that the only way is from underneath.
See if you can get the car on a lift - that will make it easier - and see if you can grab ANY part of the cable at all -if you can not you will need to make some type on hook at the end of a rod and work the lower hood latch from there.
I see them break all the time near the handle - but I don;t think I've ever seen one break at the latch.
Good luck .
and please let us all know how you do it

Thanks Mongo,

I'll try hooking it and see what I can catch...

Yes I've got the car up on standards and have been trying to get it from underneath.

Yes its broke at the latch, see no cable end at all near he latch and it is still connected fine in the car at the handle.

Ok, it seems that the cable is fine, but the wire inside the cable is what broke. ??????

And I don't see anyway to get to the latch itself to try to use something to release it from under the car unless pulling a lof of parts first.

I just replaced my hood cable too, it was old and dried up, had to tug at the whole thing really hard to open it, my guy opened it from the bottom by sticking his arm up into the latch, took him about 30 minutes to replace it, pain in the butt, is anything simple on these cars??!!

Mine snapped on the footwell area, so it was relatively easy to fix with a new cable. The newer porsches use electric servos I think, so it sucks when the battery dies.

Doug:

Congrats on the new arrival. See my previous thread on Tampa Bay GTG. If you can, bring your car to my house next weekend, I'd love to feel the power once again. I have my new arrival to show off too!

From looking under the car I do not even see the latch much less being able to get anyting up there to pop it loose....???

I could see and got a hold of the cable, but like i said, the wire inside is broke not the cable. So when I pull on the cable real hard still does nothing. Maybe just pull harder???
