5 speed or 6 speed?

The transmission is very beefy, but if you do plan on doing a lot of drag racing, and real hard abuse it wouldn't hurt to get everything hardened. The 968 gearing isn't bad. Probably not good for someone with a ton of power, but for the average 350whp guy, I would definantly think its perfect.

In order to use the 6-spd in the 951 you need: 6-spd transaxle, L halfshaft (shorter than 951), shift linkage, shift rod.
If you have ABS, you can intercept the ABS signal, use a frequency converter and get the speedometer working.
If you do not have ABS, there is a aftermarket setup (cannot remember the name), where you add a sensor to the halfshaft and send the signal to the speedometer.
I like the 6-spd, the only thing I can do without is the sloppy shifter... Does anyone make a short shift kit for the 968?

Here I thought there was something wrong with the linkage in my 968. It too seems really sloppy. I could not find a short shift kit anywhere for the 968 other than maybe Kokeln but I don't know if theirs actually changes the linkage. So I bought the Stuttgart block on e-bay to see what difference it will make. Let me know if you find a short shifter for the 968.

The Kokeln shifter is adjustable and will work with 968's. I could have sworn there was another one for 968's also.

Hey solo, I did actually think they were separate. So...now I have a completely rebuilt 89 Turbo S LSD with 15,000 miles I need to unload.
John, thanks for the tips on what I need. Now I need somone to install it. No one in my area is really familiar with doing it and one shop won't actually work on my car because of the paint! Unless I can just drive in fifth down to AZ and have David do it. Would that hurt anything worse?
So, I have a line on a 968 NON LSD tranny. If anyone knows of one available with an LSD let me know. Otherwise, What is the best lsd toput in the transaxle? What a hassle but thanks for all your tips and advise.

Hi Wes, what is a 968 SSK? What do you mean significantly shorter and more solid? Did you have custom gears put in? Shorter would be bad for me I think.

Yes John. We are talking R&P here.
How did you get the S2 R&P into the 968 box?

Rod- yes, I thought that was an excessive price myself, but t hat's what I was quoted by PHII- also, the guy's that are trying to get a run of 3.22 R&P's made, I just looked through my old e-mails about it, that's what THEY were quoted too- I don't think their R&P build went through though- if I heaar more about it, I'll let people know, but for now, no need to get anyone's hopes up... Also, I've never heard of a .66 for a 968, but then, this has been a couple of years since I asked about all of it- that would be decent- would give you just over 190 at redline, but then, you'd ALSO have a slight hole b/t 4th & 5th.
There WAS a SSK that would fit the 968 a long time ago- Dave Harrington made them- not sure if he's still around...? Haven't seen him in years, but it was very affordable & it did NOT change the linkage- was simply a short shift lever, so if you guys are specifically asking about the linkage, then it would not work anyway...
