Guys running N/A pistons!!!!
Am I correct in thinking I need the 83-86 ones that are 9:5:1 ........? And I am assuming they are not forged, so should they be coated, and if so, will regular thermal coating do?

I have a set available to me, and I am starting to put a new motor togeather tomorrow...... HP goals........I guesstimate before I threw a rod I was making 450 at 18-20 psi.

Yeap!.......83-86. later ones were 10.2. But if you really want this , maybe you should contact LR. they can make you a set on N/A pistons that are forged, that are also of the same material that the turbo ones. They are coated too.

I wouldn't recommend them for lofty HP goals. You want to run 20psi or better and this is the wrong direction to go. I would consider 7:1 pistons and 28 psi.
They are great for a mild around town engine.
I like the 9.5 pistons for AX use. Just add 100 octane and pump up the boost. Much easier transition from off boost to on.
I'm still hobbleing around on my gimp foot so I haven't done much since I've made the change. Initial results are it's feels better around town at 12psi.
I actually did this with a stock 924s engine with it's cast pistons. It was a budget move to get a running car. Not something I would recommend. The jury is still out if I go with forged 9:1 or more pistons when I do a performance rebuild. So far, it's still a possiblity.

Thats not WHP....
Vitesse stg III kit (ST's old turbo)
85lb injectors
"044" fuel pump
lindsey fuel rail kit
4" exaust, 3" dn pipe
SFR fron mount IC, SFR IC pipes
46mm Tial WG
mild port+polish
and probably alittle more I am forgetting.
And i fugure I'd run about 14psi at first, then turn the boost up as much as i safely could.

time doesn't matter, doing it right the first time does. I would get an proper torque wrench this time and have all the bolt specs and torque sequences before you even start. Also, angle indicator for the girdle bolts, but hey, that's just me.
