Default Boost problems....SOLVED! (G-Tech update!)

Some of you may recall some of my posts about my frustration with my LACK of boost - I couldn't get more then 8-9 PSI....Thought it was with my APEXi or, as was suggested by some others, wastegate.

Well...my wrench and I have been working to find the cause (before springing for the $ for a new WG)...

Thank goodness, he found it - SIMPLE PROBLEM! The Pass side boot on the intercooler had a split on the underside!

I am now getting a SOLID 15-16psi!!!!!! And spool up is RAPID!!

SONOFABITCH....THIS THING IS QUICK!!!!!!!!!!

YOWZA!

(Dammmmm....I am so pumped...I may blow off some work today and head out some country roads!!!)

{can you tell I'm a bit pumped?!?!?}

Rock on! I just put a new wastegate on mine and am AMAZED at the difference between 11psi and 15-16 is.

Enjoy the ride!

Hey don't wreck it on the "Back country Roads", but have fun!

Yes, I have sepnt the last week trying to fix the Barometer in my car aka boost gauge. Only to read and bit and understand that when I turn the key on prior to start it is telling me the barometric pressure, and my not be at 1 on foggy days first cold start, and my alitutde might make it register .995 BAR at start rather than perfect 1.

OMG In the moring I can predict the weather with my Barometer!

Took her out and did a G-tech run. (Not sure of my exact weight - I used 3120#)

296.5 HP
278 ft/lb

0-60 5.05sec - and I didn't get a GREAT start - but decent (I was being too mindful of the clutch dumping thread!).

This is ALL with NO APEXi or A/F tweaking...

I think she can easily do 0-60 in 4.7ish with a little practice!

"Yes - the windshield banner in my avatar is REALLY on my car! NO PhotoShop here! "

PLEASE!!!!! tell me where you got that windshield banner?????????

That is one of my biggest pet peeves of drivers.

I have also thought about the front plate's that say, in backwards writing, "MOVE OVER"

So, found ya some lost boost huh???????

Usually when those IC coulpers split it alwasy seems to be on the underside.

I might have to break out my G Tech again with my new chips in. What gear did you do your hp pulls for the G Tech?

Toddk -

The windshield banner came from edecals.com. At almost any car gathering, it is one of THE MOST TAKEN pics!

The G-tech does a calculation on peak HP - regardless of gear.

Lastly - The ARC2 can be 'tuned' (sorta) by assometer....but - you really need some sort of A/F meter guage to be sure...

Mark,

How did you end up finding the boost leak? About a week and a half ago, my boost started running out at 5-7psi and I have what sounds like the BOV valve going off and continuing to stay open while the boost didn't build or would build very slowly (i.e. massive boost leak) after that.

I am curious how you diagnosed the leak?

Congrats on fixing it!

"The G-tech does a calculation on peak HP - regardless of gear."

Yea, but the method is by an accellaromter and it measures, IIRC, the "pull" of the car. So in lower gears there is more of a pull feeling than 4th or 5th.

I know sometimes I would get readings all over the place depending on how you got on the gas, etc. Some would say 150hp then some would say 300+ hp.

Were your results straight from the GTech or did yo utranspose to crank hp in your post?

From the gtech...so crank hp would translate something around 350-365 (assuming a 15-20% drivetrain loss).

Nonetheless - the ASSOMETER was 'pegged' and the 5 second 0-60 (albeith with a not-so-great launch) is enough to convince me!!

Maciek -

We just kept eliminating things...actually pulled the connecter off of the wg, and applied a little air pressure to make sure she was working, check vac lines, fuel pressure, etc...Once we confirmed the WG was working properly - we felt it HAD to be a leak somewhere.

Kept wiggling hoses, and noticed that that coupler 'wiggled wierd'

I hear ya - PLUS - remember that ambient temp and humidity can change things, too! Once I get it set - I can usually fine tune by watching the A/F meter....never more then one click needed...
