I thought I would have some height issues while doing the clutch on 3 ton jackstands but havnt had a problem.... The tranny came out w/o any problems. Some bolts are of course hard to break free... Prob would be a lil better with some 6 ton stands.

So here's what I wound up doing. Thanks again to Charlie944 for the idea. I wound up doind the side to side jacking, even though I had all the wood cut and ready to go for jacking the front/rear. If I had to do it again, I think I'd remove the reference sensors before I put it in the air. I'm just about to start the job and just realized this .....

PS - the oil on the cardboard is from before I did the front seals this past spring ... it was even worse than the cardboard shows. After all summer and ~500 miles I haven't seen a drop on the driveway/garage floor (still have the batwing/bellypans off), but I do see a drop hanging from the oil pan .....

Don't forget to notch the bell housing where the speed and reference sensors go through; cut out the front so that you can just slide the bell housing back w/o removing the sensors. If you ever have to remove the bracket in the future, this will also allow you to set the required height on the sensors as well real easy!
Looks great. We just completed a rebuild and a clutch on Rhob's car, on 2 ton stands - never again.

Thanks for this very informative thread! I hate being under my 951, I always think about an earthquake happening here in SoCal while under my car! That would seriously suck!

I used the standard 8x8x16 blocks from Home Depot. I have 4 more than in the pics, which I used with a couple 2x10 planks to put the jack on for the second lifts (I first lifted onto the blocks w/the 1x12 planks on top). Very glad this thread is finding itself useful!!
Definitely going to notch the bellhousing. Thanks, Bret.

Looks great mtnman82!
Bret, thanks for the tip on notching out the bellhousing to keep the reference sensors in place. On my turbo I did not have that problem due to the TEC-2 but on the NA I will.
My car is getting ready to finally be jacked back down here hopefully tonight
Here are some pics of my most recent clutch configuration (KEP1, Feramic linings with Cup hub, and 10lbs OE steel flywheel) This setup better hold!
