I have to replace my control arms because of the new suspension I'm putting in....Any one have any suggestions about which company I should buy them from or should I replace them with OEM?

 

There are a few makers of after market steel control arms now. I know Markus Blaszak makes PCA/SCCA approved arms, I know people personally with his arms and they love them. I'm not sure who else offers them but I'm sure other will post here. If you upgrade your suspension and change your ride height at all I suggest moving away from OEM arms with the new forces involved with the height change on the balljoints.

Is this for street or track? How aggressive is your new suspension? If its a stock/mild suspension for street you can have your controls arms rebuilt - Rennbay makes a good rebuild kit. If this is a track setup then you should look at an aftermarket arm that uses replaceable ball joints with spherical bearing that offer a wider range of motion to prevent the binding found in lowered cars. I use Charlie Arms which are top notch but can be tough to find. Racer's Edge has a steel arm similar to the Charlie Arms which looks very well thought out. Paragon sells both.

Fabcar makes a steel arm as well but they are way overpriced for what you get compared to the Charlie Arms or RE arms. Kokeln makes a steel arm as well but there are some questionable design issues and as with the Fabcar arms, they are way overpriced for what you get compared to the Charlie Arms or RE arms.

 

A vote for Racer's Edge arms. While I have not put mine on yet (winter project) they are very well manufactured.

 

I also vote for the Racers Edge arms. They have an adjustable pin. This allows you to lower your car and then adjust the arms back to the stock geometry. This is key in preventing ball joint bind, which can cause catastrophic failure (snap end of A arm off, or break ball joint pin) on lowered cars.

Factory, Rennbay, Blaszak, Charlie and Fab arms do not have this option. My A arms designed by Porsche motorsports have this, but these arms are no longer available.

How are they adjustable. I thought they used a pin through a spherical bearing like the others.

 

They use spacers on either side of the bearing.

 

I've just put an order in to Karl for mine so a lot of support for R-Edge product.

 

Anyone got pics of the Racers Edge arms? I've only seen the 3d-models.
The only thing that annoys me is the control arms cartel that's going on... every control arm package cost $1595 in base form

 

Blaszak's are a little better at $1175 including spherical bushings and easily removeable ball joints.

 

The Turbo Cup/Club Sport a-arms that I have do not have any feature like that. They are standard a-arm castings with the same style/type of ball joint assembly, except the ball joint pin is beefier - it has a slot cut for the pinch bolt just on one side, not the full groove all the way around - so the diameter of the pin at the pinch bolt location is thicker than a stock pin.

The 3 arms that I have are all 87+ offset arms. One is an original off an S2 Club Sport, the other pair is a set of motorsport replacement arms. Are you still running early offset on your '86? If so, are the early offset Turbo Cup arms different? Or have yours been custom modified?

I have the mild steel ones. They are very well made and I have much better feel with steering....

 

You guys must have deep pockets. I am a cheap bastard and had Markus Blaszak weld me up some of the reinforced steel arms for my '86 for $500 or so outright. They have held up well to 3 years of tracking.

 

Late offset. PM came out with these for the Turbo Cup cars after they started breaking the factory castings. Milled from a 40lbs billet, 2024 AL.
