Default 76 Supra Turbo Vs. 86 951

Was rolling home from business meetings yesterday on the interstate when a beautiful dark green 76 Supra Turbo pull up close to me at near 80 mph. I pulled over and let him pull aside and then we both nailed it. I had dropped it into third and was on 18 lbs of boost almost instantly. I immediatly started pulling him & was 2 car lengths ahead by 110. I was amazed that this older Supra turbo was that fast. I spoke with him brifly & he told me that the Supra was also running nitros, which to me explained how he was able to hold that close. I generally don't play with other cars, but this was open interstate in the middle of no where. Was kinda fun.

old supra with updated motor, no doubt?

or it could have been one of those old little celica supra type deals.

those things are badass, and can get pretty fast.

good kill.

Not likely. There was't even a supra in 76 if I recall correctly. At first I thought it was a typo he did it twice (76 in the thread title and 76 in his post)

I wonder if he meant '86. In 76 there was a Celica IIRC. Then you could option a 'Celica Supra'. Turbos were not available until the mid-80s and the Celica and Supra had evolved into seperate models.

The Supra did not begin production until 1979, I owned one brand new. They are not even close to being fast (stock), smooth ride, nice features but that's about it..............

First Generation Supra was called the MA40 and had the weak 4ME and 5ME SOHC engine this lasted until from '78-'81

Second gen MA60 was from '82 to '86.5 and had the Twin Cam 2.8L 12V straight six or 5MGE engine power was 145-168hp

Third generation was from '89.5 to '92 and had the Twin Cam 3.0L 24V straight six or 7MGE engine and turbo 7MGTE power was 200-230hp

Fourth Generation was from '93-'98- the car that was the 911 Turbo killer - Twin Cam 3.0L 24V straight six or 2JZ-GE engine and twin turbo 2JZ-GTE power was 230-320hp

Incorrect, 0-60 in 17.9 seconds, it makes a big differnece. It may be slow, but makes up for it by handling like crap......and expoding on impact...........
