--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The trick was to run a 373 gear set from the Caravan rather than the 355 turbo grind. Woke it up pretty good, but would turn 3800 in 5th at 70mph and had a 125mph top speed.

Perry - caravan??? No ****. I never considered that. I actually got a hold of a shelby NON turbo transaxle (pretty rare). Was 3:73 as I believe. Main gear not near as strong as turbo ones.... broke that one in two weekends as I recall.

And every stock and modded evo I've seen has had transmission or clutch issues. I'll own a Hyundai before I buy a Mitsu.

Shallowness, coming from a 911 owner? HAHAHAHA. I'm shallow because I'd buy a lesser, but reliable car compared to a car that "performs" but all seem to have reliability issues from a brand new car and a company that refuses warrenty claims? Get your head screwed on straight.

Oh yeah, and keep in mind, this is a Porsche forum. Talking about Mitsubishi you're likely to get worse opinions than mine.

Pal - Coupla things.
1) Ya I might own a 911 but I have total respect for other cars and car manufacturers - whether American, European or Japanese. The Japanese put a humblin' on the Europeans in '80s and '90s, basically the Europeans were caught snoozing.....go back and check your facts.

2) If the Evo has such terrible clutches and tranny why did that car win the WRC Manufacturer's title in '98 (Tommi Mak driving) and many many gruelling WRC race titles. Argually the true test of a car's performance is the WRC series.

3) Yeah we are on a Porsche forum that does not mean we cannot keep an open mind. Think outside the box. Thats the problem isn't it...? The guys on other forums are probably out commending how great Porsche cars and folks on here cannot re-ciprocate.

As a close... my 25+year old *** technology Datsun Z will take down some pretty big game and still has A\C and all the creature comforts. Its a keeper.

I am not going to get into a pi$$ing match with you, you have your views, I have mine. So if you want the last word go for it.

Over&out.

Hyundai bought and used Mitsubishi drivetrain (engine, transmission, ect) for the majority of their early/mid 90's stuff - you know when they were touting the 10year 100,000 mi factory warranty....

Early/Mid 90's has zero relevance when we're talking about current lineups.

hehehe... i this you guys are gettin **** all over the place.....

I cannot help but laugh that slownrusty has a 911 and a 280Z... A 280Z of all things ROFLMAO.
I don't even know what to say.... so I will politely say nothing.

I will say have only been impressed with one 280Z in my lifetime.. sporting blown 383 chev and was road race setup..... I took a ride in it a local SCCA event... what a monster.

Zero relevance? You realize that the 4G63 has been out for nearly 20 years? Oh you must also know that the engine and drive train has remained relatively the same? Or that the was Evos before the Evo 8? The majority of development was done during the early/mid 90's. So that IS indeed relevant. Besides the original post was about a DSM, once again early/mid 90's.

Yep, I do realize. But my statement about Hyundai was a CURRENT Sonota vs a CURRENT Evo. I'll take the Sonota. I'm well aware about past lineups and have spent entirely to much time working on other's Mitsubishi's. Like I said, every Evo 8 I've seen has had drivetrain issues. Not to mention Mitsubishi using every excuse in the book to get out of warrenty work, and their tech's inability to diagnose simple issues. Oh yeah and add the center diff failure to that list of broken parts.
