tyre sizes : im confused
Ok, so i just bought myself some new wheels for my 86 951, 7.5 up front and 9.5 at back, but now i need to get some tyres for them, and i dont know which size would be best, i dont know anything about tyre sizes, and to be honest, all those numbers confuse me, but i did some research and i think that 215/40/17 will fit the front ok, and 255/40/17 for the back.
Do you think that these will fit and be ok, or has anyone got some better suggestions as to what would work.
Thanks
Ben

Here is a chart I have used to determine the proper size tire for a particular size wheel:
http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_specsheet.cfm?id=1
Note that this chart is for the Toyo RA-1 tire. Not all tires are available in all sizes. You can either choose a tire, then pick an available size to fit your wheel. Or you can choose a size, then pick a tire that is available in that size.
Your front to rear wheel size differential is fairly large. Personally, I wouldn't go less than 225 up front, or more than 255 in the rear. Too little tire in front with too much tire in back will exacerbate the car's inherent understeer characteristics.
