Default K27/6 from Turbo Performance

Seems those boys at Turbo Performance still can't get it right.

Take a look at the pic and tell me what you think.

PS, my dog drew the arrows! Pretty nice, eh.

I should pull my intake off and check it out. I've had it on the car for around 100 miles and no unusual noises yet.

Keep in mind, this is the second time it's been "repired" by them...

I shot another Quicktime that shows the shaft wobble.

seems to me that there is a larger gap at one side of the compressor. I 'll be angry if that was the 2nd time around.

Exactly - The gap should be symmetrical.

Yea, my turbo from turbo performance had the housing machined incorrectly, the housing was sitting like the one in the photo, one side higher than the other (different amount of space on one side of the impeller than the other).
I took the cold side housing off and measured the depth of the groove on the housing, it was 3mm deeper on one side than on the other. No wonder there was a gap on one side of the impeller. In addition, whoever put together the turbo had to machine the inside where it seals against the contour of the impeller wheel, machined it really really poorly.

With all the talk about the quality of Turbo Performance here on the Rennlist, I just sourced another housing and am going to install it on the turbo. I'll tell you how it works. The rest of the turbo looks solid though. All I have to say is that Turbo Performance will never get a good review (or more money) from me.

So who else does a K26/6 to K27/6 upgrade?

I called Majestic Turbo in Waco and the girl there (?) said they machine out the K26 compressor housing and use a K27 wheel. I thought places that did this upgrade actually provided a K27 compressor housing (which is where part of the ~$600 goes).

THe one thing that is nice about this approach is that it can be installed without any modifications. I wonder if it performs as well as a K27-6 tubo. Anyone do this?

Good question, I've herd a few horror stories out of Majestic too.

After running a #8 hotside and it's lag, I was actually considering the 27/6. By sending out a crappy rebuild a third time, it's like these jokers are just pushing to see how much I'll put up with.

That is an upside. But then its down to having to fiddle with that pipe, or risk bad machining... A pipe I can handle, a poorly machined turbine housing not so much....

Kevin,
At this point maybe you should request a refund. If your request is not met with a satisfactory answer, perhaps its time you file a dispute with your credit card company. Also, may you should talk to Tim at SFR to get the turbo in condition to reinstall

I've heard mixed results about Majestic, so I'm not sure what to think. I had a cheater 26/8 from them awhile ago. It turns out the compressor housing was machined out and it actually had a Garrett Gt28RS compressor wheel installed interestingly enough. I ended up selling this turbo, though it did not display any signs of poor craftsmanship like the turbo above.

It sounds like a cheater k26/6 is what they were offering to make out of my stock k26/6, using a k27 compressor wheel, but that's not the way I want to go. I think if I did it, I'd want a genuine K27 compressor side.
